I have been yearning for quite so long to pursue Doctor of Nursing Practice in Executive Leadership given its eminence. After 30 years in nursing and the past 25 years in administration, I want to become a leader in nursing and provide solutions to the increasingly complex and ever-changing healthcare environment. In this respect, a DNP in Executive Leadership will give me a greater understanding of health systems, research, finance, politics and so much more. This is because I understand that Doctor of Nursing Practice emphasizes on entrepreneurship, labor relations, information technology, financial management and health care policy. In addition to these career goals, the program would enable me apply research in clinical nursing practice and acquire skills necessary for ethical decision-making at any administrative level.

Over the time, I have been in nursing practice particularly in the administration position. I have grown both professionally and personally through a sound relationship with nurses in the healthcare industry. Unlike what many careers are, in nursing, growth is somewhat reciprocal. With the role of an administrator, I have been able to venture into some uncharted territory and in the end, I have turned barriers to opportunities and have expanded some boundaries in nursing. As nursing field strengthens and develops in new areas, rewarding and unique opportunities have become readily available to me. As a leader in the health care set up, I have learned that successful leaders must endeavor to inspire others to the best. Those leaders who succeed create consensus in a group since others trust them. When any conflict arises, they formulate calculated and caring approaches to solving the problems.

During the administrative period, I have been able to work with different people. Challenges have often occurred, but I have been able to turn them into opportunities as I motivate workers in the nursing practice. So that I could do this job competitively, I have always put the focus on the need to know and understand myself. This has enabled me to evaluate the impact of any actions I take. I have found myself empathizing with the workers to understand their needs, concerns and remedy any conduct they show that could be self-destructive. As such, I have been able to maintain a good working relationship with all employees in the institute while I checked the progress they make. The most important lessons I have learned is that as a leader, there is need to empathize and have the ability to put yourself in another person’s place while displaying an open mind.

By seeking an admission at MGH Institute of Health Professions, I am so confident of having made a sound decision given the good reputation and prestige that goes with this institution. I have been longing to learn from MGH educators that are proven leaders. The fact that MGH has outstanding educators with leadership skills is the main reason why the institution has continued to provide excellence while producing a generation of leaders who are impacting the nursing profession. The teaching profession of the MGH also possesses excellent credentials and has remarkable experience that constantly has for more than 150 years made the institute the paragon of nursing leadership. Given the combination of these qualities, my interest, and passion in enhancing personal and professional development and broadening leadership skills would be achieved in MGH.

The vast 30 years in nursing practice with 25 years in the administration have enabled me to develop many skills and strengths. Over the course of leadership, I have developed great skills. I am a person of vision. I have always provided clear and precise direction to my followers, and with this, any objectives I set would be achieved in more efficiently. I am also organized and focused, qualities that have in many cases eliminated confusion in the institute while they deliver the best outcomes. I have the ability to multi-task which has enabled me to save time and resources while on duty. But perhaps the greatest strength I possess that makes even other qualities sufficient and effective is the ability to be a critical thinker especially in decision making. I endeavor to bring these skills in your institute.

My decision to pursue Doctor of Nursing Practice in Executive Leadership is not random; rather it is guided by positive motives to achieving my career goals. Upon completing this program, it is my hope that I will be fully prepared in expanding nursing leadership focus to encompass intricate systems of health care for a diverse population of patients that is increasingly rising. More, so it will enable me to use the scientific skills and knowledge in contributing to improved health care results through policy and practice. Given the fact that leadership is a learning process, Doctor of Nursing Practice in Executive Leadership would reinvigorate my passion for lifelong learning and excellence in practice. This is because the content of this program is not only relevant but also is presented in a way that would optimize learning and practice. Therefore, I will appreciate an opportunity if the Admission Committee accepts my request to pursue this program. Once admitted, I will ensure that I continue enhancing my leadership skills and work ethics.
