Introduction

Business Information Systems are a group of inter-connected processes that incorporate information technology infrastructure in an enterprise to generate as well as disseminate information. The design of the systems is to provide unconditional support to the decision-making process that employers use to associate the method of achieving set out objectives (Chaffey & White, 2010). A workflow system is a software tool that is designed to aid in streamlining routine for business processes for ideal competence (Chang, 2016). Intrinsically, a workflow system involves the creation of a hold data and setting a sequential path of tasks for the information to follow until it is fully processed.  The procedure entails creating a workflow that is ideal in the state that allows people to avoid redundant tasks, automating processes as well as identifying bottlenecks for improvements. Several business models can be used to aid in the creation of such excellent blueprints, and they include porter’s models (Harding, 2017). For a business to be successful, it is paramount that businesses utilize the models above. The current paper will analyze Roberto’s Restaurant, situated in the United Arab Emirates using Porter’s model in the industry including five forces and three generic models for business operations and decision making.

Business Description

Roberto’s Restaurant is located at the heart of Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The restaurant prides itself as an ultra-modern, inter-cultural cuisine and customer-friendly restaurant. The restaurant was initially designed and built by the famous designer, Paul Bishop- renowned for his work in high-end restaurants around the world. The features of the restaurant include outdoor seating, a large parking area as well as accessibility features for all types of customers (Roberto’s Restaurant, 2018). The price range for the services and foods are fair with special diets for vegetarians and gluten-free options. Additionally, the cuisines are variedly extending from Italian, seafood menus, European and Mediterranean.

The overview of the business strategy entails the business ensuring that it stays ahead of the competition. The process is complicated but achievable. Roberto’s restaurant seeks to provide an ambiance and food menu that is beyond its competitors reach (Aithal, 2016). This entails having a wide range of cuisines and dietary supplements for all types of customers. Another strategy is to improve its opportunities through an expansive dining area for the customers. Unlike other restaurants, Roberto’s has ensured that any person can afford the food on the menu regardless of the origin of the country. This is provided for by the exquisite cuisines and affordable prices.

Workflow analysis comprises of three major aspects: model, data and tasks. The first step necessary for ensuring that any undertaking including projects is successful include understanding the workforce. Interviewing and understanding the skillset and qualities the employees possess is necessary (Ho et al., 2016). The activities in this state include the process and sequence of the participant responsibilities as well as the hierarchical level of each employee. The analysis of process models will follow this.

The second process involves processing. Understanding what the business needs to achieve is basic. Roberto’s main agenda is to ensure that it stays ahead of the competition and this serves as the purpose of the process. To ensure that this is achieved, the establishment of performance metrics (Key performance indices) is the optimal decision. The KPI can be measured within a substantive expected performance range. Roberto’s performance index so far is impressive since it ranks among the best in Abu Dhabi. However, there needs to be a lot of improvement when it comes to management to improve the profitability and valuation of the business. Among the tasks to ensure profitability would be to develop on customer relatability and experience. The administration has to motivate the workers to increase interactions with the customers such as providing excellent service delivery. This may require additional training on how to be gracious hosts for a variety of customers, but, it is believed to aid in the process of improving output.

Additionally, another paramount process is the engagement of workers within themselves as well as with the management. The handoffs process entails passing information within the workforce. The organizational culture should encompass horizontal as well as vertical communication which safeguards any doubts that workers may have when it comes to working for the business. As such, there ought to be rules and regulations in undertaking the process (Luttgens& Diener, 2016). Business regulations standardize the process that expedites the decision-making process. For example, the business can provide a control that employees are required to approach the manager directly in case of any issues raised.

The final stage is the output which ensures that any bottleneck factors constrained within the process are taken care of while handling the process. The production requires the management to have a more qualified position in how the undertakings are necessary for the business and how much they will cost the company.

Conclusion

Roberto’s Restaurant does have a website presence which is well maintained and up-to-date. The restaurant’s portfolio including start-up date, owners, menu, cuisines, and prices as well as ambiance are well detailed. The website, however, does not focus on the workflow system directly and one has to rely on different webpage to understand how the business works.

Therefore, it is best to have a further look at the website to articulate what is missing predominantly to provide a better outlook.
