My views regarding this situation are that although Saudi Arabia and the US are close allies, the US should cease their support for Saudi bombing of Yemen. Ted Lieu’s resolution is a positive move that would help save lives of innocent people. The US should reconsider their support. They should not give money and weapons to the regime that causes mass murder. Moreover, the US should be guilty of war crime happening in Yemen. We should not ignore the law of war. It is against the law to aid and abet war crimes. Precisely, it is unfair for the coalition to bomb hospitals, schools, children and other innocent civilian. Second, the bombing of Yemen would benefit extremist groups. They would feel happy when there is disorder in the government. Radical groups get motivated when the government collapses. Therefore, it would be better if the US stops supporting Saudi Arabia.
Third, if the US was to intervene, it should call for peace. Since the US is the most powerful nation in the world, it should urge both governments to stop retaliation actions. Fourth, the continued support of the Saudi Arabia bombing of Yemen would destroy the international and regional reputation of the US. Supporting mass murder would make the international community and the US citizens lose confidence in the government. The US is worsening the economic crisis in Yemen. Moreover, the humanitarian situation is deteriorating. Due to the bombing, health sectors is collapsing; malnutrition rates and diseases are high.
The congressional representative, Ted Lieu, portrays the ethics of responsible citizenship. Every citizen should engage in activities that would make the world a better place. Ted Lieu considers the bombing of a funeral, hospitals, schools and civilians as unethical. Ted Lieu exhibits the duty of a responsible citizen by pursuing justice and challenging injustice behaviors.
