Classroom Management

Classroom Management

I Introduction

The issue of discussion is about classroom management. These are measures that the teacher takes to ensure that there is a free and smooth learning process that is free from interruptions. The instructor uses proactive and corrective strategies to control the learners in the class. The method helps the instructor to inspire the learners through active participation. It also promotes discipline among the students and the teachers. The two main approaches that are used to control the class comprise preventive and corrective strategies. The former attempts to stop undesirable behaviors from occurring in class. Some of these issues include displacing chair, desks and other objects that can disrupt the learners. Corrective strategies are aimed at promoting better teaching and prevent various problems that may occur in class. For instance, the teacher can use attention focusing strategies to eliminate misconduct in class. In this case, the instructor can use signals such as changing the tone to handle the situation. Another method is distracting the disturbing student by asking him or her question. This can stop the student from continuing with such behavior. This discussion will focus on classroom management strategies and the corrective actions used to curb the situation to promote a conducive learning environment.

II LEARNING ABOUT CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

I have learned how to control a class and its importance on the instructors and the learners. Besides, I have realized that the learning process cannot take place if the teacher does not control the students. This is because various students have different behaviors that cause disruptions while learning. Therefore, I have learned about preventive and corrective actions and how they can be applied to restore order in class. In the long-run, the approaches can assist in achieving the teaching objectives. Good classroom management has a positive impact on the learning process (Reindal, 2008). First, it ensures that students obedient thus, decreasing the chances of indiscipline cases. As a result, this can increase the productivity of the learners in the future. Besides, it has the potential of improving their performance where most of them will attain better grades. The chances of experiencing conflicts in a well-organized class are also minimal. Therefore, it will create a platform where the students can interact and share ideas freely with their peers. Besides, the step will increase the teaching time. It is because there will be fewer interruptions in class from students who disturb others. This will allow the teacher to concentrate on teaching activities instead of handling cases of indiscipline among the students. Better classroom administration creates a healthy relationship between the instructor and the learners. Therefore, students will be free to ask for any assistance from the teachers when a need arises. Finally, it may prepare the learners for their future life away from school. The strict guidelines in college can train them to be responsible individuals who abide by the law. Consequently, they will become responsible citizens in the future.

III. LEARNING ABOUT BEHAVIOR AND BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT

The issue of concern is on how to regulate the behavior of students during the learning process. The step can help in setting expectations that the students must attain. Behavior management is an approach used to regulate the conduct of learners while in class. It is required in a learning environment as it helps to decrease the cases of indiscipline among students. Besides, it encourages the learners to embrace good morals. Behavior management has a positive impact on teaching. First, it will enable children to imitate good behaviors from others. Many actions are likely to disrupt the learning process (Sellman, 2011). Some of them include talking when the instructor is teaching and standing without permission. A teacher can identify the problem and correct the behavior of such a learner. Other students can imitate the new conduct that has been imparted on the student. Secondly, learners are likely to change their conduct without noticing. For example, pupils can embrace good characters in they are aware that they will be rewarded. This consistency will ensure that the learner behaves well all the time. Therefore, it will be easy for the teacher to concentrate on the learning activities of the learner. This can eventually increase the performance of the student.

  1. LEARNING ABOUT BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONS

These interventions aim at changing behaviors that can interfere with the student’s learning. The responses used for one learner are different from the other. This is because various learners have their own unique needs that should be addressed. It is, therefore, essential to do a thorough assessment of the learner’s behaviors before implementing the plans. One of the interventions is by structuring lessons which are stated and easy to identify. The second approach is by breaking tasks into simple, manageable tasks. These interventions are necessary as they can assist in understanding the weakness of learners (Oral, 2012). Thus, the teacher can take action by focusing on such areas to improve their performance. Secondly, it will enhance the learner’s understanding because one can learn various tasks by following specific steps. Lastly, it increases the student and teacher relationship in school.

  1. LEARNING ABOUT PREVENTIVE, SUPPORTIVE AND CORRECTIVE PRACTICES

The tutor must use to prevent certain behaviors from occurring in advance. Such a step can assist in minimizing disturbances while in class. Also, it will give the teacher more time to handle academic affairs instead of dealing with indiscipline cases. Supportive approaches will ensure that the learner is given the necessary assistance during the learning process. On the other hand, supportive practices will help in correcting the undesirable behavior of the student. Preventive tactics have a positive impact on teaching. First, it enables learners to be accountable for their actions. In this case, the teacher gives the learners specific responsibilities in their group work. As a result, it can help in reducing the chances of non-compliance. Additionally, this method helps to enhance student involvement in the learning process. It is because they will know what their teacher expects them to do. The supportive process emphasizes on improving and teaching responsible behavior. It will also create harmony in the class as everyone will feel appreciated.  On the other hand, corrective strategies can help in reducing disturbances during class time.  For instance, the instructor can engage the disruptor by asking him or her question. It can discourage such behaviors in the future because one may feel embarrassed.

  1. LEARNING ABOUT CARING ENVIRONMENTS AND CIRCLE OF COURAGE

Circle of courage is an approach that encourages people to care about the welfare of others in the education sector. In this case, individuals must embrace teamwork by supporting and helping each other. The purpose is to ensure that students take their studies seriously. It also encourages individuals to work as a team and share ideas for their benefit. The method can have a positive effect on teaching. Teachers can rely on this method to ensure that weak students are assisted in comprehending the content. Moreover, it will make the learners feel appreciated because of their involvement in the learning process. Therefore, they can work hard to attain a better ranking in class. Besides, the technique will assist the learners in getting new ideas from their classmates instead of depending on the instructor alone. This approach also brings all the stakeholders in the education sector together. In this case, the parents, teachers, and learners can collaborate hence, attaining better results.

VII. METACOGNITIVE UNDERSTANDING

I have known that children with disabilities must be given a lot of attention than regular learners. They are slow learners, and their lessons must be offered more time to cover their syllabus. I have also understood that special needs kids require trained professionals in special education to handle their wants. Besides, I am now aware that learners with disability need teaching aids like sign language (Bluestein, 2011). This can assist them in understanding what their instructors are teaching. In the future, knowledge can help me to handle special needs children and the intervention measures I can use. Some of the areas that need assistance comprise of classroom administration and behavioral change. These areas are essential as they will determine the overall performance of the students. Therefore, the learning environment must be conducive to enable the students and teachers to go on with their activities smoothly. The three areas that must be applied in the classroom environment consist of preventive, supportive and corrective practices. The three areas touch on the student’s affairs directly, and they also determine their future performance.
