Comparison and Contrast of Pop-art images and deconstructive Art Images

The pop-art image is a historical art movement that was started in England in 1950s and the USA in the late 1950s. The art of movement forms my pathway fashion and design.  It is meant to challenge the traditional arts as it used visual elements of media art which makes it refined. The arts of pop-art originated from the formed culture of the people of America. Pop-art was invented by an artist a British curator known as Lawrence Alloway who majored on consumerism and popular culture imagery.  The art employed the use of schemes of bright colors that enabled them to make a vant-gade-art, which emphasized given contemporary culture elements. The pop-art images were drawn on the containers of certain important products which acted as the medium of passing the information for instance in the Campbell tomato soup. The conspicuous art also involved celebrities, comic strips film stars among others which made it very popular. Deconstructive constructivism is a contemporary art movement that relates to my pathway in fashion and design. The art movement came in in the late 20th century, and it has remained the most embellishing art in the garment fashions and artistic work. It uses very significant elements of architecture known as follies. The deconstructive art movement is linked to artists such as Frank Gehry, Rem Kolhass, Bernard Tschumi Peter Eisenman, Daniel Libskind, Coop Himmelblau, and Zaha Hadid. The artwork in its inception was mostly used in buildings to choreograph images, shapes and to treat surfaces. The design shapes of the art and forms of the art have no linear lines and edges but were brought out in smart conspicuous 3-D images with a combination of colors that made it very attractive. It is characterized by fragmentations, to manipulate the surface of the structures, non-skin and skin rectilinear shapes which looks dislocated and distort images but very attractive in nature. The paper provides a detailed comparison and contrast of Pop-art images and Deconstructive Art Images which all relates to my pathway in fashion and design.

I have chosen pop-art and deconstructive art movements because of their attractiveness and skillful orientation.  The two art movements are much relevant to my pathway in art and architecture specifically in fashion and design of garments. My aspiration as has always been is to employ schemes of bright colors in given ratios to create vant-gade-arts. It has also been my dream to make art fun by using our country’s popular cultural symbols and elements to create logics in the form of imagery in garments as employed by the pop-art movement artists. Deconstructive art is also relevant to my pathway because it will assist me in designing art through the use of the idea of fragmentation in manipulating structural shapes and images to form 3-D images in my fashion work.

In the pop-art movement, I would select the image containing three men with signs of letter-X drawn across their stomachs and question mark and thought signs at the head. The image also has writings indicating “FEAR=IGNORANCE =SILENCE=DEAH” at a given location in the same Image it is written “FIGHT AIDS, ACT UP “with a danger BESIDE.  The three men in the picture with red letter X signs at the stomach and thought signs at the head must be in great danger, difficulty or problem. The fear equals ignorance, equals silence equals death would mean the three people fear the danger or difficulty they are passing through; this is because of the highest level of ignorance that the three individuals have. Therefore the fear and ignorance make them remain silent about the problem that they are passing through. The silence makes the problem or the danger to build up in them hence leading to their death. Because at the end the pop-artist indicated that we should fight HIV and AIDS, then it means the three men, but they feared to share the information about their health status with others who would help them.  This was a sign of the highest order of ignorance that the three men assumed leading to their ultimate death at the end. The last statement in the piece of art indicating act up is to inform anybody suffering from HIV and AIDs or any problem in life to drop down fear, share to be advised thus eliminating ignorance that would consign them to an early grave. Therefore, pop-art is an essential tool that can be used to pass information to the public information of writings to help eliminate problems the society is passing through.  The drawings have been made big and conspicuous enough by use of different colors hence easily perceived by a glance.

In the contemporary art movement, I would choose the art with the image of the “Sun heating a layer beyond the earth surface,” the layer being experiencing the suns radiations is drawn using a thick layer. The image also contains reflections of the sun upwards, and the earth is seen at the furthest end below the thick layer, the sun is indicated in intense red color. The sun with the “red color” symbolizes a very dangerous element with powerful short radiations that are not suitable for human and animal’s life. The layer high above the earth is very thick. The layer could be representing the ozone layer that is located several kilometers above the earth. The ozone layer made up of the three strong molecules of oxygen traps the excessive sun rays from reaching the earth surface.  The middle of the layer directly to the sun has been reduced in size because it absorbs some of the sun rays to help keep the earth warm. The shape of the ozone layer is also drawn in a way that it allows only the long radiation helpful in the provision of vitamin D to reach the earth surface. Some of the rays have been indicated by backward reflection; these shows the short harmful UV rays that are harmful to the earth being taken back to space.  The 3-D artwork that has been drawn by use of the fragmentation idea of the deconstruction helps to pass the information about the importance of the ozone layer in protecting the earth surface from UV rays. The ozone is in white and thick to show its purity to inform human beings that they should let the layer be as thick and as white as it is and not release reactive ozone gases to the atmosphere.  Therefore the simple deconstructive art is instrumental in conveying information about the cultural issues and maintenance of the earth resources that are of importance to human beings.

There are a number of similarities about the two images; these include the use of different colors in both of the two drawings to make them conspicuous enough to attract the eye. This increases the distance or spatial view of the images by the intended audience. The other similarity is that the two images are both drawn in large sizes and the writings made in capital to make the naked eye perceives them without struggling. The differences between the two images are, the pop-art is in 2-D form and do not give the view of the whole pictures of human beings as they should be while the deconstructive art image is in the 3-D format that enhances the entire view of the sun, the rays, the earth, and the ozone layer. This difference is contributed to due to the advancement of technology that is used in designing deconstructive images. The pop-art image is rudimentary and not so refined enough while the deconstructive artwork is so refined and definite because of the modern technology that has been used to construct it in order to give the right information at a glance.  The texture of the image in the pop-art is so rough and dull while the image in the deconstructive art-work is smooth and clear. The tone of the two images is linked to the materials that have been used to make the image and the purpose. Because the deconstructive art is mostly used on buildings, then I should be smooth and clear enough to be perceived well however the height of the building.  In the deconstructive contemporary image, the shape and form of the image have got no linear lines and edges while the pop-art image has got defined shape and forms indicated with linear lines. The deconstructive art image looks dislocated and distorted because it contains a number of information; therefore, it needs to be observed very keenly to understand. Whereas pop-art image is uniform and simple to perceive the information it passes without engaging ones thought to get its deep meaning, the superficial meaning is enough to understand its meaning. The differences of the images also can be observed from the fragmentation, the deconstructive art image contains fragmentations within it while the pop-art images do not possess any feature of fragmentation within it.

In conclusion, there exist a number of similarities and differences between pop-art images and the deconstructive art images. This arises from the makeup of the two types of artwork. The differences and similarities between the two art images is mostly on the complexity of the images, the tone, size, the form and shape among others which are contributed to by different factors.  Some of the similarities are, both of the images are constructed by use of various colors to increase the distance of view. They are also both drawn in large size and addressed in capital letters for easy view. Some of the differences are, the deconstructive images have got a sharp tone for easy attraction and view while the pop-art is made in a dull tone. The deconstructive art image is complex due to fragmentations while pop-art is rudimentary.  Therefore, both pop-art images and deconstructive arts are still the excellent artworks to use if fashion and design. However, the deconstructive art fashion image is more preferred because of the refined, sophisticated technology that is used to create the art images.
