Course Reflection

From the entire learning experience, various reading and literature materials were resourceful towards realizing the objectives of the course. The topics and themes of the course correlated well with the learning activities. However, some concepts and deliberations were unclear and arguable. For instance, from the Four Freedoms Speech, I believe not all leaders can practice what they say. President Roosevelt was instilling joy among his constituents by assuring them with entitlement to all human rights. However, the contemporary world does not reflect that. Most leaders treat their constituents as slaves despite their conditions.  This learning experience has connected well with my personal life because it has helped me understand that despite any level of social status and condition, everyone is entitled to freedom. Concerning civic engagement and experiential learning, the knowledge acquired from this experience has enlightened me to be more sociable and respectful to everyone in society. These learning experiences have been reflected in other things that I have read and witnessed. For instance, personalities with leadership qualities like those of President Roosevelt have advocated for the freedom and rights of people with disability. They have made disability rights a movement that aims at achieving an environment free from discrimination of individuals with mental or physical challenges.  With such developments, my perception for people with disability has changed making me believe that they deserve to be treated fairly. From the learning experience, I can make two significant conclusions. Firstly, in contemporary society, individuals with disabilities seem to be perceived as helpless and incapable of making independent decisions. Secondly, freedom and disability rights are essential in ensuring they are not deprived of liberties.
