This week’s study focused on crisis management in political systems as well as mean making. This involves the nature of crises, leadership perspectives as well as the critical tasks that can be done to curb disruptive situations. The readings also focused on the development of action plans. In any organization or company, conflicts or unfavorable events are prone to happen, but if they are handled carefully, success is inevitable. Crises affect the operations in any department in different degrees. Five main leadership challenges affect the process of crisis management.

People and organizations around the world experience a lot of problems, which can involve human-made accidents as well as natural disasters. When these incidents occur, residents shift their attention to the actions that can be taken by their leaders in ensuring that they are out of danger. Crisis management is one of the tasks that ensure the protection of citizens. This responsibility is always complex and tedious, and it requires the involvement of both private and public organizations. Crisis management can be seen as a test for the capability of political systems and leaders. It examines how people in power deal with the task of contemporary governance.

A crisis can be interpreted as an undesirable and unexpected situation. In an economy, it relates to the point of decline of a particular process after a certain period of steady development. In public companies, an incident that may lead to division among the leaders is termed as a threat. A crisis also may trigger some sense of urgency. Time compression motivates leaders to formulate faster decisions. Leaders at the operational level have the responsibility of ensuring success after a crisis.

The ubiquity of crisis is another area we covered in this week’s readings. Disruptions are normal in life, and they may have caused mayhem in every human being that ever lived. One of the biggest challenges of many leaders is to control or prevent disruptions. However, effective management reduces the impact of these unexpected occurrences.

Leadership perspectives

People who are exposed to crises or disruptions expect the government to act quickly to avoid any loss. Thus, for instance, members of parliament act as watchdogs as they serve the public interest. In a liberal democracy, public leaders are expected to manage a crisis in a moral, political and legal order. They have to exchange efficiency and effectiveness against particular values.

Developing an Action Plan for a Political System

Creating a plan for a particular issue is the main responsibility of leaders in any system. People look up to them for solutions in various situations. However, the leaders are expected to communicate the most important issues that will act as strategies. Political systems should allow the people chosen by the public to acquire and disseminate essential information that will lead to changes in a particular setting. In doing so, the leaders need support from the society they represent.
