Social entrepreneurship plays a critical role in addressing some of the world’s most pressing social issues, such as clean water, early childhood education, sanitation, financial stability, women’s and girls’ education, health, job skills, environmental protection, and human rights. Many of these issues figure prominently in socially and culturally diverse communities across the globe. Social entrepreneurial initiatives operate in large urban areas such as Los Angeles and in remote villages in sub-Saharan Africa and everywhere in between, often bringing life-saving innovations to the community. The support of the community and action-oriented leaders who work to sustain and promote the initiative is important to the success of programs developed in a culturally diverse environment. To prepare for this Discussion: Find behavioral health organizations that have social entrepreneurial and advocacy components and support socially and/or culturally diverse communities. Select one to use for this Discussion. Consider the organization’s impact on the community, including with whom they partner, how they obtain funding, and how they promote advocacy for the diverse communities the program supports. With these thoughts in mind: Post a brief description of the organization you chose and the community it serves. Explain the impact of the organization on the community. Include in your assessment with whom the organization partnered, how they obtained funding, and how they promoted advocacy for the diverse communities the program supported.
