Needs Assessment (includes: annotated bib, summary)- Ø Overview of this component: Use secondary data sources to determine health needs of your priority population. Summarize the need for program. Be sure to cite sources. For this project, you will be utilizing secondary data. Ø LIBRARY Review/Instructions: Students will be provided information and instruction on library resources and ‘how to’ conduct a literature/research review for your group project. Ø As a group, pull a minimum of 10-12 references on your topic (Date range is Current 2008-2016). Ø Use APA style format to reference source(s). APA 6th edition; Owl Purdue are both great resources. o See section titled Annotated Bibliography. Directions/Format for this section: ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY 1) List/Cite each reference using APA style. 2) Then, under each source/reference, BRIEFLY (a paragraph) describe what the research/article is about. This serves as a guide for you/student to quickly pull data. Also, provides reader a snapshot into WHY this health issue is a problem (“show me the $$”). Example: Aliamio, K. (2010). Food insufficiency in American schools. Child Malnutrition, 108(1), 78-84. n This article discusses the link between malnutrition and poor test scores. It also addresses policy reform at the State and local levels of government. 3) SUMMARIZE the need for the program. This is essentially a brief 3-5 page summary/description telling the reader WHY this health topic is important, Who is the priority population? What are the needs of the priority population? Where are these groups located geographically? What is currently being done to resolve identified needs? How well have identified needs been addressed in the past? Example: Based on the research findings, 1 out of 5 kids in California are suffering from malnutrition. NOTE: As a group, you will continue to add to this section as you learn more about your topic.
