HIST301 W4 Follow-Up

For your follow up, I will ask you to expand on some of the points that you have made in this post by working with some of the speeches in Thucydides’ account. He gives us several from Pericles and each of these has the potential tell us something about the man himself, and about Thucydides’ views on the war. (Thucydides tells us in his history that he himself composed the speeches in his work but that he tried to make them reflect as accurately as he could what was actually said at the time, 1.22.1). Considering Pericles’ speeches in Thucydides at 1.139-145 2.34-46 2.59-64 What did Pericles think was at stake in the war with Sparta? References: Thucydides. The history of the Peloponnesian war.
