Identify the various ways in which high performance practices and their associated techniques such as organisational learning and knowledge management, can be used as a means of enhancing performance. Identify the problems and difficulties associated with the use of these techniques. Develop the ability to reflect on the adequacies of our theories for understanding the impact of these practices. (a)Ensure that your essay addresses the question asked. This means the answer must be applied to the question, and not merely an account of everything you know about the topic. (b)Your essay should cover all the key points and range of arguments or viewpoints relevant to the question. A frequent weakness in student essays is that they reflect limited sources of material, hence contain only a narrow spectrum of views. (c)Your essay should be written in an objective style, which avoids unsubstantiated assertions. (d)Using examples and illustrations from organisations with which you are familiar provides you with the scope to demonstrate a deeper level of knowledge an understanding of your chosen question. (e)Be careful not to spend too much of your assignment simply describing concepts or case studies. Remember at Masters Level we are looking for critical evaluation of the topic. (f)Explore the theoretical and philosophical frameworks underpinning your essay question. For example, soft or hard approaches to HRM; unitarist, pluaralist, radical approaches to managing the employment relationship. (g)Consider the implications for HR practice and any ethical issues that may arise from the approaches and practices you discuss.
