For many students enrolled in NR501, this is an initial course for nursing theory. So, let’s have a debate. Is nursing theory important to the nursing profession? If you believe that it is important, explain why it is useful. If you do not believe that it is useful, explain why nursing theory is not necessary to the profession? Be sure to provide an example that demonstrates your opinion and a scholarly reference (not using the required textbook or lesson) which supports your opinion.
As defined by Butts and Rich (2017), nursing theory is a set of concepts, definitions, relationships, and propositions or assumptions deduced from nursing models or other disciples to project a systematic and purposive perspective of phenomena through the design of the particular inter-relationships among concepts. The purpose of nursing theory is to describe, explain, predict, and prescribe nursing phenomena. In my opinion, nursing theory is important to the profession and practice of nursing. It gives the foundation of practice by helping in the generation of further knowledge through research. This knowledge offers direction for the future development of nursing by helping nurses to decide what they knowledge and what they ought to know (Mintz-Binder, 2019)……………..
