Palacio, R. J. (2012). Wonder. Random House.

Wonder is a realistic fiction book of a boy named August Pullman who was born with an extraordinary face of a facial deformity. Pullman was ten years old and loved Science. Due to his facial deformities he ended being homeschooled till 5th grade where he enrolled at Beecher Prep school which was a regular school. Pullman also enjoys Halloween since it is a day that allows him to hide his face using a mask and nobody gets to judge his mandibular-facial defect. The purpose of including this book is to use August’s situation to encourage children to accept diversity by accepting themselves and others as they are. Wonder allows children learn problem-solving skills too. A great activity to promote this perspective is to organize children to participate in a pretend play while wearing extraordinary faces and accept each other as they are.
