There are a few suggestions I’d like to make before you submit your literature review: Use headings. Obviously Introduction and Conclusion are common to all of your reviews. Beyond that however, the headings in your reviews are quite individual and dependent on the topic you are reviewing. Remember headings are used to structure the content of your and guide the reader (in this case me), so your headings have to be relevant, concise and inform me what the upcoming paragraphs in your paper are about. A new heading signals a change of topic area. This is a review, not a summary of literature. The key here is to be critical about what you read, it’s not just a restatement of what the author says in a paper. Your introduction could well include the information required in Criteria 1 on the marking sheet, although you could also put this under a separate heading – up to you. Criteria 2 could be covered separately under a heading of Critical Analysis. Criteria 3 is demonstrated by how you respond to the literature you are examining in detail. All the other criteria are part of what makes up a typical literature review. As you write your literature review you may not necessarily have headings relating to each of these criteria. You might well have headings relevant to your topic e.g. Drug Abuse, under which you identify the themes in the literature, the areas of agreement and controversy, gaps in the literature and dominant researchers. Remember, this is a literature review. What I’m looking for here is a review of the body of literature that will be useful in your project. Whilst doing your review, you have to make sure you are covering the areas outlined in the Marking Criteria. organisation written on: These suggestions are to be read and considered in conjunction with the class presentations. I wish you all the best for your Literature review. The Salvation Army begins in the late 1800s by the Methodist minister William Booth in East London.
