Introduction

Communication is the sharing of ideas, thoughts and feelings between people in an understandable way. Communication is very essential in an organization. To succeed in a work place, one needs to have communication skills. This includes both verbal, written and expressions communication. There are self-assessment tests that can help on identify the communication skills in them.

Communication

This assessment assesses how good a communicator one is. It identifies the communication skills one possesses and their level.  My score for this assessment was outstanding. It showed that I am an outstanding communicator who is very effective in communication.

Style

The assessment assesses the communication style ones uses when things are running smoothly and when things are not smooth. The style can be open, closed, hidden or blind. After taking the assessment test, the results revealed that I use the open style when things are running smoothly and shifts to blind style when under stress. When things are running well, I am equally interested in people’s needs and the productivity of the company. I always appreciate other people’s efforts. However, when under stress, I become very authoritative and always make people nervous.

Listening skills

This assessment assess whether one is a good listener. It assess whether one follows all the listening stages which are sensing stage, interpreting stage, evaluating stage, responding stage and memory stage. One has to undergo all the stages to listen effectively. My results revealed that I am moderate in listening. I follow all the stages but tend to skip some stages when bored or angry.

Facts versus Inferences

This assesses how b how often one searches for facts instead of making inferences about something.  It identifies the skills one possesses of identifying facts from inferences. After taking the test the results showed that I am I rarely, jump into conclusions rather I search for facts. I understand that making inferences is calculated risk sand thus i rarely make assumptions.

Types of Questions

This tests ones knowledge of the different questions that exist in the e formal and social environment. These can be hypothetical open, open-ended, closed, direct, leading, third-person, and verbal probe and loaded. The results proved that I well vast knowledge of different questions.

Lawful and Unlawful Questions

This tests ones knowledge of the unlawful questions. Some questions are unlawful and should not be asked. The knowledge of such questions is significant in a work place. They might give information that can be used against you. The test results showed that I am well knowledgeable when it comes to unlawful questions.

Personality Factors

This assessment identifies the personal factors such as agreeableness, conscientiousness, extroversion, emotional stability, and openness to new experiences. My results showed that i am open, conscious, kind, and open to new experiences. However, the results showed that i am emotionally unstable though not to a great extent. I am not a very cheerful person.

Implications of the assessments

The assessment reveals that I am a good communicator as well as a good listener. These are important qualities in any career. In a formal workplace, it is significant to know how to effectively communicate. Listening is also part of communication. Listening follows some steps. If one fails along the way, the whole process becomes ineffective. For an organization to succeed, all the employees must know how to effectively communicate and relate with each other.

I am an open communicator who value feedback and disclosure. I also value other people’s needs and the productivity of the organization. This enables me to relate well my other employees, which eases communication and improves efficiency in the organization (Hamilton, 2011). This is essential for my career in that a good relation with other employees will enable me advance in my career

In the formal setting, there are different types of questions that exist. Some questions are very personal and are unlawful in a formal setting. I have a vast knowledge about the different forms of questions and when necessary to ask which form of questions. This is significant especially when I attend interviews in that I am able to evade the unlawful questions. It is common for the interviewer to continue asking unlawful questions if the interviewee continues answering them. I always try evading these questions though not in a rude manner. In addition, there are different types of questions including the hypothetical open, open-ended, closed, direct, leading, third-person,  verbal probe and loaded (Hamilton, 2011). With the knowledge of all these types, I am able to deal with them as necessary. People are different as uses different ways of asking questions. It is important for me to know what type of question one asks and how to effectively answer them.

Assessment reaction

I found the assessment useful because I had the chance to explore my qualities in communication and relating with other people.  From the assessment I realised I have more qualities than I ever thought.  Though I always evade personal questions in an interview, I did not know such questions are unlawful. The assessment was a revelation to me. In addition, I have also been able to notice some weaknesses in my communication style like anger, which I will work on.
