Primary Source Paper #2

Primary Source Paper #2

It is early 1969, and Richard M. Nixon has just been sworn in as President of the United States. You, a book reviewer at a newspaper or magazine of your choice, have just received an advance copy of Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five for review. Utilizing the book, assigned primary sources, your personal feelings about America in the aftermath of 1968, and your knowledge of the domestic and international current events, write an argumentdriven book review for a popular audience. You should consider, but not feel limited by, the following questions: Is it a “good” book? Are there elements of the book you were critical of and/or did not enjoy? Do you think it will have a popular audience among Americans in 1969? Does the book have any significant themes, morals, or messages that you think will resonate with Americans in early 1969? Why or why not?
