Professional Responsibility of a Construction Engineer

Q#2 – Ethical and Professional Responsibility

Construction engineers are very crucial to the successful completion of a project. Some of the projects that they work may include the design of a sewer system, construction of a building or the development of railroads or even the roadways(Hansen 45). They usually focus on a specific construction project which therefore gives them the skills and expertise to manage a construction project effectively.

  1. Preparation of the physical layout for the construction project as well as coordinate with the project manager for the administration and maintenance of the contracts and the purchase orders and prepare the active work schedules.
  2. Oversee the engineering processes in the construction projects and provide expert support as per the laid down requirements.
  • Identification and resolving technical aspects in the construction processes
  1. Provide technical assistance and support to all the methods of management and use different software in ensuring that compliance and effective project schedule has been achieved.
  2. Monitor the life cycle of a construction project as well as ensure that all the compliance standards have been adhered to during the construction process (Hansen 26).
  3. Evaluate the environmental impact assessment tests to validate the environmental impacts that the project is likely to cause.
  • Evaluate the cost estimates of the project as well as advice on the best cost reduction measures that can be implemented on the project.

Professional licensure is very important as it ensures that the construction engineers adhere to the professional code and ethics. A construction project worth billions will require that every shilling that has been used in the project be accounted for. In such an instance, it will be necessary to determine the cost aspects as well as all the critical factors that are necessary for the project. Therefore, ethics need to be observed as well as professional codes of conduct that have been prescribed. Professional licensure is additionally essential as it ensures that the engineering standard guidelines have been followed during the construction project. This is because the experts involved in the construction will have professional clearance from the licensing body.

Q#3 – Teamwork

The team that I work with at the project level are a very motivated and passion-driven team. With the driving force being the team spirit approach we have solved some of the complex issues within our team and develop a cost-effective strategy in managing the project. The team is capable in that it encourages the views and input from each of the team members, brainstorms about each of the input and evaluate and come up with the best strategy. Leadership has been managed within the team in that the team leadership is respected. Being able to drive the workforce as well as teams has not been a straightforward approach. However, with the leadership structure exhibited within the project teams as well as the construction teams have been effective as it has ensured that targets and the project outcomes are achieved within the stipulated timelines (Vesilind p120).

Collaborative approaches have been effective within the teams. With the input from other vital areas such as accounting, finance, procurement, engineering, and design, there has been a more unified approach that has been used in the project appraisal as well as managing the basic phases of the project. The effectiveness of collaboration in the teams is effective as it has optimized the project development and at the same time provided more discrete approaches in managing the project(Vesilind p114).

We have held some discussions, and we are communicating effectively. We and will be holding a meeting as well as brainstorm on the innovative ideas for the workload distribution.
