Provide Strategies for a Developmentally-Appropriate, Multicultural, Anti-bias Early Childhood Classroom

In a diverse society, there is always the potential for active bias, prejudice, and discrimination both within society and in an educational classroom. Previously, you learned that children develop awareness of human differences at an early age and are affected by the attitudes and beliefs of everyone and everything in their environment. Thus, it becomes necessary as an early childhood professional that you have developed strategies to interrupt bias, prejudice, and discriminatory behavior. Please carefully and thoroughly read the following scenario. You are an administrator of an early childhood K-3 program. It has come to your attention through comments of several teachers that there has been an increase in the number of stereotypical, discriminatory, and exclusive behaviors in the classrooms. Comments such as “go back to your real country” and “you can’t be in my group” have been made by children in the classrooms of these teachers. You have decided that what is needed is a workshop on anti-bias classroom strategies to help all teachers in your program develop classroom anti-bias strategies. For your workshop, you will develop a PowerPoint presentation that presents strategies for maintaining and enhancing a multicultural, anti-bias classroom and eliminates the discriminatory and hurtful behavior. You will respond to the following assignment instructions. You can refer to the APA PowerPoint Presentation website to assist you in making sure that your presentation conforms to APA style. Create a Powerpoint presentation for teachers in K-3 classrooms that explains what comprises multicultural, anti-bias classroom. Identify at least five research-based strategies to eliminate stereotypes and discriminatory behavior. Demonstrate through two different scenarios how to respond to a child who has demonstrated hurtful behavior and the response to a child who has been the recipient of hurtful behavior. Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as speaker notes for each slide. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists. Length: 8-10 slides (with a separate reference slide) Notes Length: 100-150 words for each slide References: Minimum of three scholarly resources including the text and other professional resources (professional organization websites, government websites, etc.) Your assignment should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards.
