Quality Improvement for Obesity as a Biopsychological Clinical Issue

Quality of care improvement especially in biopsychological issues such as obesity is the objective of public health. Different strategies can be out in place to improve care quality by ensuring evidence-based care to deal with the growing cases of obesity in society. Obesity is a multidimensional condition that is caused by psychological, biological and social factors co-acting together. This abstract presents strategies that can be implemented at the community level to deal with obesity.

Nurses have an essential role in the community to eradicate the rising number of obesity cases due to changing lifestyles and diets which cause biological factors that contribute to obesity. Obesity is stigmatized and viewed as a clinical issue caused by eating excess food. A proper functioning human body should be able to burn fats to produce energy which can reduce obesity. Community education should help the community members to understand the biological and psychosocial aspects of obesity which can help to end stigma. Community education should encourage members to engage in exercises which can lead to reduced insulin resistance a factor that leads to weight gain.

The quality of community care to address the rising cases of obesity can be achieved through obesity counseling especially to children who are traumatized and bullied. Most young and obese individuals lack confidence which affects their stress management which leads to the production of blood sugar which further leads to obesity. Therefore, obesity should be approached from an inter-professional approach by physical exercise therapists, counselors, and a dietician to provide the necessary guidance which can improve the quality of life for individuals who are overweight.
