Running the Triangle

Running the Triangle

Phil Jackson is widely considered one of the most successful basketball coaches of all time. His offense was predicated on the “triangle,” which was known for striking the correct balance between flexibility and control. In his book Eleven Rings, Jackson writes fondly of the triangle, saying it gives “players the freedom to find their destiny within the team structure.” Analyze that quote and apply it to the business world. How important is it for an employee to be flexible and for an employer to embrace that flexibility? Provide a real-world example of a company that you believe achieves that goal. When responding to your classmates, discuss how their sample companies achieve the goal of employee flexibility.
