Question One

Universal healthcare can be defined as a system that functions to supply health care services and also offer financial protection in terms of health to all the citizens in a given country. Universal health care mainly functions to make sure that every citizen gets access to quality health care to aid in their recovery process. In the film watched several countries have universal health care. Examples of these countries include the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Japan, Switzerland and Germany

Question Two

The impacts of the two factors were that people got tired of being denied insurance covers by the insurance companies. With the coming of the affordable care act, one of the differences that were made is that it limited the patients annual out of pocket spending. Secondly, it brought to an end to the lifetime benefit limits that had been introduced by the insurance companies. Lastly, the affordable care act ended the discrimination o people who had preexisting conditions by the insurance companies.

Question Three

In Britain, all the national health services are catered for by the government. Some of these services include the treatment of almost all diseases and the prescriptions of drugs that a patient may be required to take. However, it is important to note that all these activities are funded by the taxpayer’s money through government revenue incomes. According to the film, one thing the Americans would not like about the British is that in Britain have a high life expectancy rate and a low infant mortality rate which is the opposite in America.

Question Four

In Japan, every citizen is required to pay a fixed amount of $280 per month for their health care services. On the other hands, any employer in the country is also required to pay more than half that of the citizen. Even if the copayments are usually 30% of the total cost, the total amount expected at the end of the month is calculated depending on the income that is earned by an individual.

Question Five

One of the reasons as to why the doctors in Germany will accept less money is because many of them attend medical schools for free. The rich should pay for the poor because of the provision by the government where the rich 10% usually opt out from health funds for the for-profit insurance. This results in the patients being attended to quickly by the doctors due to factors that are paid in by the insurers. One of them is that the doctors are paid even more money by the for-profit insurers than the sicknesses they treat.

Question Six

One thing that works well with the Taiwanese system of health care is that there is a will to offer affordable and quality health care to the citizens by the government. However is worth noting that the system is struggling to balance the patient’s hopes, doctor’s needs and the cost of treatment. The primary purpose of their struggles is that the system is not getting enough funding to keep it functional. Politics has played a significant role where the legislature of the country is continually failing to approve funds since the inception of the system.

 

Question Seven

One reason as to why the Swiss were willing to make the changes was because they saw it unethical for the insurers to get profits from offering the primary care of health services. The reason as to why the support of the LAMaL system has continued is because there is always a negotiation between the providers and the insurers on the setting of the prices for the services. On the other hand, the government is responsible for the setting of the prices for the drugs.

Question Eight

After watching the film, I would concur with the sentiments that the provision of universal health care is the ultimate way to go. This is because many Americans may not afford to pay the subscriptions for the insurance as expected and yet would require at some time to get some medical attention. The universal health care stabilizes the whole issue of the provision forms the top rich people to the bottom poor by bringing a common ground.

Question Nine

It is not at all instances that the insurance companies in the United States of America should be allowed to make profits. There are some of those scenarios like health care provisions that they should be exempted from making profits. However, they may be allowed to make profits from supplementary products and services that would in turn help in the daily running of their business.
