Strategic Management of Organizations

The strategic management practices of an organization allow it to succeed and achieve the goals it has put into place. Walmart, United Way, and Human Rights Watch are the public, nonprofit, and non-governmental organizations under focus. This paper will focus on the various strategic management practices applied in these organizations, and the best recommendations from the applications listed.

Walmart is an American multinational retail corporation that has various types of stores in multiple countries. Its headquarters are in the United States. The company started in 1962 but has now grown into a formidable global brand with over 11,300 stores in 27 countries (Walmart, 2019). The organization focuses on being a leader in sustainability, and the provision of employment opportunities globally. The organizational vision of the company is, “to be the destination for customers to save money, no matter how they shop” (Ferguson, 2019). The vision is a representative of the focus of the management on customer service.

United Way is a non-profit organization that deals with the empowering of various communities across the globe. It is a coalition of multiple charitable organization, allowing them to unify in fundraising and support (“United Way Worldwide,” 2019). United Way works with the most appropriate parties to promote growth and allow for empowering of the people at the bottom. The organizational vision is, “to have a community where all individuals and families achieve their human potential through education, financial stability and healthy lives” (United Way, 2019). The organization achieves this by increasing the education in marginalized areas, ending endless dependency and ensure access to food and quality healthcare globally.

Human Rights Watch is a non-governmental organization that advocates for research on human rights. The founding of the organization was in 1978, experiencing growth over the years (Human Rights Watch, 2019). The organization has built itself strongly as an advocator for the rights of the people, especially in marginalized areas, and this ensures that they partner with the best parties, and allocate optimum resources to every region. The vision of the organization is to ensure that it is committed to defending the rights of all individuals worldwide, independent, factual, and focused on the impact that they will have on the people on whom they help.
