The American Civil War 1861 – 1865

The American Civil War of 1861 to1865, was between the Northern States and 11 Southern States that demand secession from the union. Despite the effect of the war, it also leads to the development of the nation under the central government.

The Central National Government was so important since it was to reunite the Americans. Government Agencies were created to help those people that had been freed in the south.In “1867,” the Congress passed reconstruction acts that were to assist in the readmitting of the former Confederate states into the union. The reunion brought economic, social and political development in the country. There was a need to develop a democratic state that would annul the initial claims of the Emancipation Proclamation, which promoted racial inequality in the U.S. (Shi and George 545). During the reconstruction, three significant amendments were passed to the constitution, Article XII, Article XIV, and Article XV, the abolition of slavery, birthright citizenship was granted to slaves, and for the first time for the freed slaves were allowed to vote. The reunion of the southern states with the northern states and formed the singular United States unlike before.Unity under one government assisted with the formation of a robust political system fueled with a powerful military from all the states in the country.

It was necessary to form the nation to ensure an equitable allocation of funds from different states towards achieving balanced regional development (Berwanger 172).after the civil war there was industrial growth and economic strength on the southern region. The government also ensured that its industries were protected by increasing the tariffsone of the primary reasons for forming the nation was to prevent a similar war in the future, also as a nation, the government was able to exploit the natural resources without any setbacks since they had united with the other states. There was also a need for the federal states to join because they would help in solving the long term challenges like the abolition of the slave trade which was one of the reasons the states went to war.The unity under one government assisted with the formation of a stable political system and a powerful military from all the states in the country. With a stable government, the country was able to achieve its goals hence making it a superpower Country.

The primary reason that led the northern states to go war with the southern states was that of the gap between the free and the slaves who were arguing the government to outlaw slavery. Although the American Civil War had both negative and positive results. The war resulted in the development of one nation that consisted of all the states Northern and Southern states under the strong central government. Besides, the unity of the states brewed economic, social, and political prosperity in the country, which made the U.S become world superpower after World War II.Even thoughracial discrimination did not entirely end after the formation of the nation, as the northern states intended to some extent, it reduced the belief of race supremacy since; all the races were required to participate towards building a united nation. More than 600000 lives were lost as a result of the war which is the most significant number of fatalities in American history. This war claimed most of the American soldiers than any other war.

The end of the civil war had transformed the economic, social and political history of the United States Nation. Although it had started as a secession from the northern states, it ended up with the killing of the then president Lincoln.
