The code of conduct regulates the ethical behaviors of an organization and its members in most instances. Ethical violations can include the mishandling of funds, conflicts of interest and lapsed licensing. They may not know the right time to use force. Some ethical violations can occur when excessive use of force occurs. Some of them are the rights of individuals. Excessive force may lead to physical since it involves the use of physical force.

Moreover, it can lead to psychological torture in the event the individual does not speak out. The ACA’S code of ethics requires all law enforcement personnel to respect both the legal and civil rights of the inmates as well as refraining from any form of discrimination. The use of force also violates the integrity, respect, and patience of the officers. Law enforcement is a job that requires patience since the suspects often manipulate the officers. Using excessive force on the suspects violates this ethical requirement (Nowacki, 2015).

The endless complaints on the mishandling of the suspects have motivated the police department to come up with policies that ensure the police do not use excessive force on suspects. The administrators in charge of enforcing the law have a duty to ensure that the law offenders are not mishandled. For this reason, they can implement policies to minimize the chances of officers unnecessarily use of excessive force. These policies are discussed in the subsections that follow.

  • Police officers are required to record all rounds of their shift so that they can justify the use of force and compliance of the suspect. With this advancement, the number of complaints on excessive use of force reduced from 0.77 per 1,000 individuals to 0.77 Per 1,000 individuals.

To sum up, using excessive force should be discouraged since it leads to ethical violations and also violates human rights. Administrators should come up with policies that ensure the police do not use force unnecessarily. Every citizen has a right to report any case of excessive force even though the police have laws that protect them from such cases (Loyens, 2016).
