The Zeitgeist of Positive Psychology

Zeitgeist is a German term which means the spirit of times which encompasses of a prevalent mindset, set of standards or attitudes. Therefore, Positive Psychology is the systematic study of the powers that sanction individuals and cultures to thrive. The field is grounded on the sureness that folk’s aspiration to lead noteworthy and sustaining lifestyles, to nurture what is paramount inside them, and develop their capabilities of love, labor, motivate, and satisfy. Classic Psychology is literal experimentation of the Zeitgeist of positive psychology. For instance, the idea of love is explained by Harlow in his Rhesus Monkey Experiment. In a sequence of scandalous experimentation spiloted during the 1960s, Harry Harlow established the substantial impacts of affection on healthy growth. The study was done by displaying the shattering outcomes of denial on immature rhesus apes. Harlow discovered the significance of affection for vigorous infant growth. Harlow’s research was regularly disreputable and astonishingly harsh, yet it disclosed vital facts that have profoundly affected our understanding of infant growth (Gruber, Mauss, &Tamir, 2015).

In one famed form of the experimentations, infant apes were alienated from their mommies instantly after delivery then positioned in an atmosphere where they had entrance to a wire monkey “mother” or a version of the faux-mother covered in a soft-terry cloth. The wire mama offered foodstuff, and the fabric mommy offered smoothness and coziness. Harlow discovered that although young primates would go to the wire mommy for foodstuff, they massively favored the companionship of the lenient and soothing from the fabric mother. The outcome confirmed that parental connections were more significant than merely offering wherewithal. Also, coziness and safety frolicked a crucial part in the materialization of connections.

Pavlov who was a Russian physiologist founded classical conditioning involving learning through connotation and positive psychology revealed. Pavlov was mostly learning the gastroin testinal arrangements of pups at what time he discerned that his samples had started to drool every time after seeing his laboratory associate. Pavlov learned during the tests that specific reaction would be accustomed by correlating a formerly unbiased incentive with an inducement that logically and spontaneously activates a reaction. Pavlov’s experimentations with the ring a bell before feeding dogs founded classical conditioning. Simply, two stimuli are connected to give a new erudite reaction in an individual or animal. Basing on Pavlov’s observation, John Watson anticipated that the progression of classical conditioning was capable of explaining all facets of human psychology. Entirety from communication to emotional retorts was simply configurations of stimulus and reaction famous known as positive psychology. Watson alleged that all people variances in conduct were because of dissimilar experiences of knowledge.

Positive Psychology has affected the field of politics by advocating no specific means but rather an extra finale but that end is not prosperity or invasion, and it remains just welfare. Therefore, material affluence is significant to Positive Psychology, but only if it upsurges the welfare of the citizens. Positive Psychology has influenced both political agendas and the relations of people (Rosenthal &Rosnow, 2017).

Consequently, Positive Psychology has influenced the use of social media either to build or destroy one another.

In conclusion, people embraced Positive Psychology because of the need to bring out the best in everyone for the good of society(Aspinwall& Staudinger, 2013).
