For this extra credit assignment you will be reading a chapter from a book called After the Fact, The Decision to Drop the Bomb. It focuses on the United States’ decision to drop a pair of atomic bombs on Japan at the end of World War II. In this chapter the authors of the book want to address: how do historical models work and what types of models are there? What was the initial explanation for why the bombs were dropped. How did Gar Alperowitz’s conclusion differ from these traditional explanations and what model did he use? What are the limitations of using interpretive models?
