Youth and Crime Research Proposal

Youth and Crime Research Proposal

Introduction

The menace on the relationship between youth and crime is a concept that requires an immediate address. Various questions arise from the phenomena as multiple components of the society are attributed to being the cause of the felony. Among these factors include parents, the environment and personal interests. Various scholars have attempted to save the life of the innocent creatures from the crime life through written works. Welsh and Farrington (2008) being among the first individuals to address this issue whereby they were of the mind that investigations should be based on the parents’ role, the neighborhood, parental conflict among other factors that are related with the phenomena (Welsh, 2008)

Crime generally is costly to society. To be specific youth crime have been attributed to having adverse impacts on the community as it affects several components of the organization such as education economic factors as labor is affected. The youth are considered to be the future of any state. Therefore, their engagement in criminal activities jeopardizes the success of that nation. Thus, youth crime should be prevented at all cost (Zhang, 2010)

This research will address the issue on youth and of crime by critically examining the causes of juvenal crime, the remedies to be employed to curb the problem and possible solutions that can be implemented to save the life of the nation as the youths hold it. This will utilize the different types of research to get a broader understanding of the concept.

Problem Statement

The youth stage is the period between childhood and adulthood whereby the individuals appear to be vigorous and energetic (Gasior, 2014). This stage is characterized by industrious individuals who should channel their sound energy into economy building activities. The subjects instead engage themselves in destructive actions lag nation building. The results of youth engagements are as a result of a production where the factors acting can be manipulated to bring out either positive or negative effects (Zhang, 2010). This is an indicator that there are possibilities for managing the actions of the youths.

Saving the life of this individual is a global call from criminologists. Preventing the same from deviating from the norms and standards that are set by the society is critical as the effects have proved to of significant impact on the whole nation. Every community is governed by established rules and standards that everyone should abide by. This rules may be formed by government institutions, beliefs overseeing the operations of that society and international laws mostly housed in the bill of rights (Welsh, 2008).

There are various approaches suggested to end the menace. Among these is the Social intervention strategy that has been ranked as the best as it is cost effective. This indicates that the phenomena require further studies to establish the best approach in comparison to the “social intervention” advocated by Zhang (Zhang, 2010).

The surrounding has been attributed to be the cause of the crimes. It is through the creation of social classes that are built by governments through policies. The family has also been linked to juvenal delinquency whereby the parents and the adults have been associated with the steering force of youth crime. A family is a production unit made up of factors of production that determine the output. Therefore, these factors of production should be sorted effectively as they decide the output. Among the inputs that have a profound effect on the child’s actions are the inherited factors such as ability and the decisions that are made by the parents. Own choices also play a role in committing a crime. The adults acquire human capital which is effectively used. It is obtained from learning experiences, engagement in leisure activities that have been found to contribute to the behaviors of the subjects (Zhang, 2010). Among these will be criticized in the pursuit to identify the possible remedies to the challenges.

The youths engage in various illegal activities subject for prosecution in different levels of justice. Among these activities include school dropout, bullying, selling of illicit substances, truancy, etc. this is but a few that will be researched on to find a long-lasting solution that will protect and manage the behavior of the young adults are the drivers of any country’s dream.

Purpose of the study

This research will investigate the whole concept on the association between the youth and crime by evaluating the factors making the subjects to engage in heinous acts. The research will also assess the extent to which the juveniles participate in criminal activities. By addressing the two question, it will be possible to come up with remedies that can be used to promote behaviors change by the youths.

The research questions will aid in addressing the concept of youth and crime. Understanding of an idea is based on deeper understanding which is only achieved by evaluating the relationships between two variables. In this case, the causalities of crime will explain the leading factors needed in the study, the extent in conjunction with causalities will aid in addressing the research question on remedies that can be used to counter the acts. Responses for these questions will be obtained through explanatory, descriptive, exploratory and evaluative research approaches.

Information on the discussed phenomena will be obtained from secondary and primary sources. They will aid in comparing the attributes. Secondary sources such as books and journals will provide information on the extent and causalities that have been documented. Associating with the use will help in determining the social context which has been classified as the cause of crime. Since the social approach is the best criterion for evaluating the concepts under the setting will be beneficial.

The study will be of great benefit to society as youth crime has been found to have adverse effects. Rehabilitation centers may use the remedies identified by the research. Youth is a critical component of the community that needs protection from all avenues as they hold the future of any state. They are the most industrious individuals as they are energetic. Therefore, measures have to be put in place to ensure that their energy is channeled into productive activities. The study on youth and crime will, thus, save many country’s futures.

Research questions.

The thesis statement of the study is on youth and crime houses various questions that will employ the use of multiple methodologies to obtain the required answers. Under the analytical approach, the issue of the factors leading to youth engagement in crime will be identified. An evaluative approach will answer the question on the extent to which the youth engage in misconduct. An exploratory approach will assist in determining the ways through which the subjects engage themselves in crime. The descriptive approach will answer the question of possible remedies that can be used to address the menace.

Hypothesis

The question at hand on youth and crime require explanation more so on the ways through which the phenomena can be eliminated from the society as it has proved to have adverse effects. The research will mostly look for social aspects as a gap is prevalent. A qualitative approach will be used to understand the concepts deeply. this research can be termed as a working hypothesis because it can be used as an improvement of other studies such as saving the lives of children and young adults (Welsh, 2008)

Definition of terms.

The main concepts under study are youth and crime which need an explanation. Youth is a period between childhood and adulthood of an individual. The stage is characterized by adolescence. To rhyme with the study which has a social connotation a youth is a phenomenon that is socially constructed and it is not linked to biological foundations. Space and time spell out who a teenager (Gasior, 2014). Crime is an action did that is against the rules and regulation of a state or a particular community. The two variables form the basis of the research. There is no difference in crime as various jurisdictions categorize them regardless of the doors (Mitchell, 2005)

Limitations of the study.

The sampling of the typical group of youths to study as adolescence is a social construction ideology. This means that various communities have their perception of the concept (Gasior, 2014). This means that different understanding of the idea prevails. Few studies have been done in this field making it challenging as a comparison of the results is required for replication purposes. This is a scientific principle that must be fulfilled by any research. Collection of information may also be challenging to the broad scope of variables and their complexity. There is some variance in examples of crimes from various sovereignties. This brings in the challenge as a common understanding is required (Mitchell, 2005).
