Assignment # 2

Various inequalities and forms of discrimination (based on gender, race, class, age, disability, sexual orientation) have been identified in the workplace. With reference to the contemporary Canadian labour market, discuss processes and practices within workplaces that serve to maintain forms of inequality for a particular group of workers who face discrimination. What types of strategies might be employed to advance equalities in the workplace?
For this assignment you are to submit a 4-5-page paper (approximately 1000 words, exclusive of any end-notes and bibliography). Your assignment is to be typed, double-spaced on 8½ x 11 paper using a 12-point font.
Your paper must include references to at least 2 sociological works (books, chapters in edited collections, journal articles) outside the course materials. Introductory Sociology textbooks and magazine or newspaper articles may be used but they do not count toward the 2 required sociological references.
This assignment is worth 20% of your final grade. It is due in class on June 3rd. I will not accept electronic copies of your paper. Late papers will be penalized by 1 grade per day.
