Effective communication in the workplace is critical for managers. It allows the management team to encourage a peaceful and healthy environment where chances of misunderstandings are minimal (Guffey& Loewy, 2012). However, to improve communication effectiveness within the team, managers can engage a number of strategies.

First, the management should strive to understand the kinds of communication channels that suit their teams. As explained in Chapter Two of the course text, businesses typically have different forms of channels. Examples include telephone, video, email, face-to-face, memo, and blog.However, to communicate effectively, managers need to discover and employ the type of channels, whichdrive the people with whom the management needs to connect(Guffey& Loewy, 2012).For example, an “open meeting” can be a good place for managers to communicate their passion and how they feel about particular issues affecting workers. Furthermore, unlike electronic media such as email, blog, or memo, open meetings give workers an opportunity to listen to, hear, and feel their leader’s opinion in an open forum.

Moreover, to communicate well, a team leader needs to create a receptive communication atmosphere. According to Guffey and Loewy (2012), this strategy is important for several reasons.For example, the approach helps to lower tension especially when sharing a message that employees are unlikely to welcome.

Furthermore, it is critical for the management to demonstrate seriousness when communicating. For example, regardless of the communication channel used, employees tend to take information for granted if they notice uncertainty and lack seriousness from the management. Therefore, to ensure workers regard the information, managers should display sincerity when passing communicating.
