Interview and Research Report Guidelines

After you have concluded your research and written your memos for company 1 and 2, you will need to conduct your interview and write up a short report based on the information. You will analyze your research and interview to come to a conclusion about the position

Interview Criteria

  1. Write a list of questions. Your questions should be prepared before your interview. Following the guidelines in the text and discussed in class, create a list of questions that move from general to specific for your interviewee. Remember the purpose of the interview is to learn about what it would be like to work at a company similar to one that you researched for your memos. Post the questions in the same document as step 2.

  1. Write Analysis Notes. After your interview you must write a set of analysis notes:

You will want to address the following questions as applicable to your interview:

  • What stories and viewpoints from the interview interested you most?
  • What statements about the position surprised you? Explain why?
  • What aspects of the career did your interviewee most want you to understand? Why?
  • What insights emerged from your interview data? In what ways do you view the position/company differently after your interview.
  • What questions would you now if you were to conduct a follow up interview?

Report Criteria

After you complete your interview, you will write a 2-3 page report discussing your research and interview. Refer to the research report section of your text (347). The report should include the following information

  • An introduction discussing your initial interest in the position/company
  • A section discussing your research findings and how it influenced your interview
  • A section discussing your choice of interviewee
  • A section discussing your interview process (questions created, setting up the interview, the interview itself)
  • A section discussing your major takeaways from the interview. Use your analysis notes.
  • Work towards a conclusion where you discuss your current attitude towards the job/company based on both your research and your interview
