American Forest: Bienville National Forest Central Mississippi The forest was established back in the year 1934. Similarly, Bienville National Forest was named after Jean Baptiste Bienville who was then the French-Canadian soldier and colonist. Most of the forest land was directly purchased from the following lumber companies: Bienville Lumber Company, Marathon Lumber Company, Eastman Gardner Lumber Company and Adam-Edgar Lumber Company. Excess fuel buildups in fire-prone forests. The strategies include implementing the National Fire Plan and the Healthy Forest Restoration Act (HFRA).  The strategies will help to facilitate fuel reduction. They should implement prescribed fire. It will reduce the damage of wildfire on our community and land (   U S Department of Agriculture, n.d).


Part II

Take your information from part I and use it to create a sustainability plan.

Your sustainability plan should present what, when, and how something is to be sustained and maintained now and into the indefinite future. Your plan can be submitted in a narrative or table format. The Corporation for National and Community Service (n.d.) provides the following list of components that make up a sustainability plan that should be included in your table.

  1. Action items: Provide the items or activities that need to be addressed or that need to occur.
  2. Order of action items: Discuss how the action items inStep 1 will align or occur. One event or activity should occur before another.
  3. Action steps: Explain how you are going to conduct the action items. How are you going to make each item or activity happen? Include individuals or groups who will help you conduct these activities.
  4.  Timeline: Estimate when you are going to conduct the action items.

Conduct a research on the causes and effects of fuel build-up in forests. Review relevant environmental websites and scholarly articles or journals and books.

Document the sources of fuel build-up and its dangers to the environment and human health.

Get more information by interviewing the environmental researchers and facilitators.

Month 1 – 2
Develop an education program about the causes and effects of fire build-up in forests. Develop a presentation entailing the reason the program is required. However, it will include the causes and effects of fuel build-up in forests. It will also address the risks involved and the benefit the society will get by implementing the program. Month 2 – 3
Schedule a date and time when the presentation will take place. Attend a weekly meeting with United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and other agencies such as GAO and BLM to present the benefits of the program.

Request that USEPA schedule a time in week one of month five for the presentation.

Document the necessary equipment require for presentation that included the audio and visual. The layout of the presentation area was also included.

Month 3 – 4
Invite the various agencies and community to take part in the program. Target the rural homes that are in proximity of the forest fires. Also, target the relevant agencies and shops with high financial support. Month 4 – 5
Gain the involvement of the community. Create and distribute flyers to homes and shops announcing the educational presentation with USEPA in week one of month five. Month 6 – ongoing
