Introduction

An attitude entails how an individual or a person acts or feels towards a particular situation, thing or somebody. The three key components that make up attitude include behavioral, cognitive and emotional. This essay aims at critically discussing my attitudes concerning a teamwork environment, health, and wellness and learning new skills and how they affect me on a daily basis, examine how my younger sister displays negative attitudes towards these issues and also suggest various ways which may be employed to change my sister’s attitudes towards these elements.

Detailed Description of my Attitudes

I always feel motivated whenever I am working with other members of the team in completing assigned tasks since teamwork has proven to be one of the best ways of improving quality, increasing productivity, speed and at the same time reducing costs(Ku, Tseng & Akarasriworn, 2013). For instance, in our last group assignment in class, we managed to score high grades as a result of collaborating during the research which enabled us to comprehensively address all the expected learning objectives and outcomes of that assignment. That was a significant improvement from the grades that we had scored in the previous individual tasks. Moreover, I feel that those individuals who can maintain better health and wellness are more productive than those who have low regards to both health and wellness(Amusa, Goon & Toriola, 2012). Additionally, I believe that the best way to enhance personal growth is through embracing the culture of willingness to learn new skills daily. It is through learning new skills that people can make significant progress in their careers, become more useful to the organization that they are working for and also improve their level of performance(Baartman& De Bruijn, 2011).

How These Attitudes Affect Me daily

The above attitudes play an essential role in my daily activities. For instance, my high regards to a teamwork environment enable me to be more comfortable while working with other people rather than working alone in completing a particular task(Ku, Tseng & Akarasriworn, 2013). My love for teamwork has over the years supported my daily growth since it is from the team members that I manage to learn new things and increase the quality of my results and performance in whatever task I decide to undertake as a team. Furthermore, my positive perception of the importance of maintaining good health and wellness influences me into leading a lifestyle that promotes my health and wellness (Amusa, Goon & Toriola, 2012). For instance, I embrace the practice of taking a balanced diet in all my meals, and I do not engage in drug abuse as most of my peers do. Moreover, by having a positive attitude towards learning new skills, I always enjoy interacting with people who possess different talents and skills since it is from them that I can gain knowledge about how they go about their activities (Baartman & De Bruijn, 2011).

Having Positive Attitudes in Most Situations

Since my childhood, I have always embraced the things that happen around me and have learned the importance of being optimistic about the events that take place whether they are good or not. Thus basically, whether good or bad, I have learned the importance of always having a positive attitude in most of the situations that I encounter within my life(Avey, Luthans & Youssef, 2010).

My Sister’s Attitude towards These Items

Contrary to my attitudes as discussed above, my younger sister portrays different attitudes to these items. For instance, she profoundly believes that a teamwork environment tends to slow down progress especially when conflict erupts between the team members. Thus, she highly dislikes working in a team and instead prefers working as an individual(Ku, Tseng & Akarasriworn, 2013). Moreover, she does not consider having good health and wellness as an essential factor in enhancing one’s success and argues that people still become successful even when they have poor health and wellness (Amusa, Goon & Toriola, 2012). Additionally, she has this mentality that those people who focus on improving the few skills that they have instead of aspiring to learn new ones can improve their performance and efficiency when compared to those individuals who focus on learning new skills. In her view, they are unable to specialize in one particular area (Baartman & De Bruijn, 2011).

Changing These Negative Attitudes

Several strategies can be employed in reversing these adverse changes that my sister has towards teamwork environment, health and wellness and learning new skills. Firstly, my younger sister needs to be enlightened about the importance of trust during teamwork and the value associated with collaborating with other people. She should be aware that trust is always reciprocal which means that the more an individual trusts others within a team, the more likely that they will also trust him or her (Ku, Tseng & Akarasriworn, 2013). Furthermore, taking her to a hospital setting to witnesses the pain and agony that the helpless individuals who lack proper health and wellness tend to go through may help in increasing her awareness about the importance of these items in one’s life(Amusa, Goon & Toriola, 2012). Moreover, my sister needs to be educated on the importance of learning new skills as one of the ways of coping with the current changes that are taking place as a result of technological advancements (Baartman & De Bruijn, 2011).

Conclusion

Conclusively, it is essential for an individual to have a positive attitude towards most of the things and situations that he or she encounters while undertaking daily activities. Having a positive attitude towards items such as teamwork, health and wellness and learning new skills may significantly help someone become a better person in the society and increase the level of performance and success in the endeavors that one aims at accomplishing.
