Change Proposal Project on Hand Hygiene

Change Proposal Project on Hand Hygiene

Background

In every healthcare institution, some problems are faced by the management and the people in charge. One of the most common problems is the nurse shortage that prevents the delivery of services to the patients. These problems result in poor healthcare outcome. Several reports have indicated an increasing number of patient complaints due to poor service delivery. The nurse shortage also results in other problems such as instructions and in accountability from the nurses. The wrong perception of the hospital facility comes from the lack of accountability and the availability of nurses who cannot handle the problems as required. According to reports that are given by the world health organization, there are more than two million people who are admitted continuously on an annual basis in the hospitals. Out of this, 60% usually di. Several strategies can be identified to significantly prevent the problems that come as a result of the nurse shortage. One of them is employee bonuses through appealing to the bodies that are in charge of healthcare institutions. The other solution is offering training store those who are part of the system. This will eliminate the errors that are expected from the few nurses that are available. Training will also lead to a better patient outcome as the nurses will use limited time to do the absolute requirements. A recent study has indicated that the performance of the nurses can be improved up to 30% when constant training of new inventions are done for them. It also shows that the patients are becoming increasingly more vulnerable if they are not attended to because of the nurse shortage.

Problem statement

Nurse shortage is a significant problem in many healthcare institutions, and it should be handled with care to improve the patient outcome and the quality of services that are delivered. Some of the problems that have been identified to be associated with nurse shortage include poor quality of service delivery from the nurses who are available. The other problem that has been identified is that the shortage of nurses leads to a bad reputation in society and lack of trust for the nurses. It also puts too much burden to the nurses who are available as they have to work extra time to cover today nurses who are not available. Consequently, this means that all the available nurses are easily burned out due to too much work that they have done.  These are problems that have to be addressed in a better way

Purpose of the project

The main aim of this project is to suggest some of the most effective solutions for the problem of increasing nurse shortage in the hospital. This project is showing some of the advanced programs that can be used to educate the nurses to avoid the excessive effects of nurse shortages. By suggesting the best solutions such as training methods and evidence-based practice, the effects of nurse shortage can be reduced to improve better health for patient outcomes. It will even reduce the risks that the patients are exposed to because of these problems.

PICOT

The population that is targeted in this research project patience who are within the emergency department and those who need immediate care. The patients in the units of healthcare as acceptable to the shortage of nurses are they are likely to suffer the most as they need immediate attendance. At the emergency units, the patients but most acceptable as they need immediate attention. The patients who had affected are the mother and baby on the post-mortem unit mercy hospital Miami. It is essential to use this population because they give the first-hand information on the effects of nurse shortage and how inadequate the services are because of the shortages. The interventions that have been identified include offering training to the available nurses and proposing solutions for the nurse shortage. When it comes 2 comparisons, the use of standardized exercise allows for active group control where the subjects who are their mothers and their children in st mary’s hospital yes the service in comparison to the other places. The outcome changes will be observed to different levels and opinions of the customers and patience to show their satisfaction. The timeline is every week.

Research methodologies employed

Several research strategies have been employed in this work. The use of literature review and informational research that focuses on evidence-based electron success within the emergency department have proven to be important. The use of questionnaires to survey and get the opinions of day patience is the other strategy that is employed. The database also has various statistical reports that give different concerns contributing to poor health and how nurse shortage can be solved. Additionally, different articles that are regarding evidence-based practice are used in gathering sufficient information that will be used in the comparison.

Literature evaluation

The various materials used in the search indicated that a lot of HCWs do not adhere to the HHC. Most of them do not consider the health standards concerning hand hygiene is important; thus, they are not keen to practice it. The study shows that the in compliance has resulted in frequent cases of epidemics among them that are transmitted from one person to another including the patients that are being attended to. Some of the infections found to be caused by poor HH include Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and the influenza HINI and of which are highly contagious from one person to another. For instance, when a person involved in a fatal accident and is admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) and the health officer attending to him is suffering from an infectious HAI; then, the patient is likely to get infected despite being admitted due to injuries from the accident. The literature materials indicated that among the major causes of low HHC were deduced to be a lack or low level of education about the importance of HH and perceptions such as gloves are enough to maintain health hygiene. Therefore, the reports from these articles and databases imply that the intervention of an advanced educational program about hand washing is significant.

Nursing theory

According to the information gathered, the HCWs should be taken through the education program that will help them understand the most significant and effective ways to maintain HH and its importance in the reduction of HAIs amongst them and their clients. With the appropriate knowledge about HH, HCWs are most likely to adhere to the HHC, and this means that the chances of transmitting the illnesses to the patients they are attending to especially in the emergency departments are low.

Proposed implementation plan

Considering that the target duration for carrying out the plan of educating the HCWs about the importance of adherence with the HHC is six months, an effective and efficient plan should be put in place to make sure that the objective is reached. The health employees from the emergency departments should be involved in inappropriately scheduled sessions regarding the educational program, and at the same time, it should be ensured that the performance at the workplace is not affected. Therefore, the lessons are to be scheduled in shifts where various groups are taken through the program at different times, and by the end of the six months, all of them are supposed to have the entire knowledge about what they are supposed to do. With the more advanced knowledge regarding hand washing, the HCWs will improve their HHC. Proper hygiene including HH will reduce the possibilities of pathogens causing infections, and the results will be fewer cases of HAIs; hence, less potentiality of patients in the EDs getting sick of other illnesses other than the ones they are being treated.

Barriers and their solutions

However, despite proper strategies to enhance the adherence to HHC, there are possible obstacles that may hamper the implementation of the new intervention. First, some HCWs may be irresponsive to the program while others may be slow learners implying that a lot of time will be taken to educate them. Therefore, to overcome this problem, it will be required to give such individuals more time than others to make sure that they have sufficiently acquired the intended education. Second, some individuals are ignorant if not forgetful. Although the HCWs will be educated about the purpose of the program and the effects of practicing what is being taught, some might ignore the lessons while others may forget to carry out the HH when undertaking their tasks. The possible solution to this is close monitoring of such individuals of which is time-consuming and tiresome, but further training can be of significance to ensure they adhere.
