Combating Terrorism: Political history

Combating Terrorism: Political history

The most exciting things that I learned from the documentary include the challenges that the government is facing while trying to combat terrorism. The government has been trying to fights terrorism and ensure the people are safe and free from terrorism danger. A lot of efforts have been put into place to ensure terrorists are kept away from the borders of European countries (Keller). The other exciting thing that I found from the documentary is how the terrorists can enter weapons and other items that they use to attack the people into the European Union countries. The government thinks that their borders are secure while at the same time terrorists can enter weapons into the United States. The last exciting thing is efforts put by the government to prevent terrorism yet the militants can come into EU countries and conduct attacks.

There are issues that I learned from the documentary, and they include European countries collaborating with the United States into fighting terrorism by sharing intelligence. I also discovered that anybody could be a terrorist including EU citizens (Keller). Also, I get to know that some EU residents support terrorism. From the documentary, Al-Qaeda and ISIS are related since its Al-Qaeda that transformed into ISIS after its leaders died. The primary challenge facing governments in fighting terrorism is the ever-changing face of terrorism that is hard to keep with.

The legal system in France failed in fighting terrorism since they dropped all cases that involved terrorism suspect that were freed. Strengthening the border policy created a loophole for people since when they are allowed to visit the Schengen state temporarily, they are given the opportunity to plan for attacks while in the country (Keller). The revelations in the documentary on how the terrorists hide in the name of refugees complicates the issue since the government wonders whether to allow more refugees and risk the security of its people. Europe has taken long in upgrading its surveillance system since its comprise of many countries that are not cooperative in fighting terror.
