Computer Security Incident Response Team

A computer security incident can be defined as a situation whereby the normal functioning of the operating networks and systems is changed hence implying that they have been compromised(Brownlee, &Guttman, 2018). Information security is paramount in large organizations and institutions like Wilmington University since much information is shared daily and should be protected. For it to function well, there needs to be a group of experts and personnel who in the case of the detection of such an incident will be prepared to counter it. This group of people is commonly referred to as a computer security incident response team (CSIRT).

Computer security incident response team are very organized, and their response method is always accurate and timely. To begin with, the teams still have a work station where they monitor all the computer activities of the institution to make sure that they are functioning normally. In case they detect some absurd activity to the systems they are quick to react and eliminate the threat on the spot(Brownlee, &Guttman, 2018). This timeliness helps in preventing the risk from spreading further and affecting a large area. Some of the incidents that the computer response team handles include hacking, information loss, unauthorized transactions, monitoring of the security cameras among others.

The president of Wilmington University should lead a security team since several benefits can be associated with having a Computer security incident response team (CSIRT). One of the benefits of the team is that information security is guaranteed, and this makes potential clients and students have faith and trust with the institution. A second benefit is that incidents of hacking and unauthorized transactions by some of the institution staffs can be detected. This helps a lot in the minimizing of theft through online fraud, and the universities funds will be safe from people with such intentions.
