Introduction

Conflict resolution is the process and methods that are used in enhancing peaceful ending in a conflict or retribution. This process involves the affected parties communicating their take concerning the conflicting motives or ideas and later engaging in collective negotiations (Wallensteen, 2018). Therefore, better communication skills are needed to resolve these conflicts successfully.

Outline the Conflict Details

The conflict comes about when one party does not want to carry out their chores, in this case, washing dishes. This leads to one person doing all the dishwashing. This is regardless that the other party carries out their chores when it is their time. One party feels oppressed by the actions of the other party.

What role do Conflict, Power, and Intimacy have in Conflict Resolution?

The first thing to do is to realize that both parties have equal power before the conflict resolution process begins. The severity of the conflict should then be assessed to know the extent to which it has come to (Wallensteen, 2018). Finally, the relationship between the two conflicted persons should be put into consideration before attempting to resolve a conflict.

How would you Positively Communicate to resolve this Conflict?

Brainstorm in ways whereby the conflict should be resolved in a way that both parties will feel well represented. No one will have a hard feel after resolution. Some of the communication strategies to be used explained. Firstly, everybody is allowed to have a say in the resolution process without pointing fingers at each other. Secondly, everyone should listen to one another’s reasoning and avoid interrupting when one is laying out their points (Wallensteen, 2018). Thirdly, listen and ask questions to seek a common ground during the resolution process. Furthermore, agree on a mutually acceptable time to resolve your conflict to avoid bombarding one other.

Effective Verbal Communication in Conflict Resolution Process

Use a moderate tone when communicating with the other person so that the communication seems civilized. Listen carefully to what the other person has to say and consider their way of seeing things before coming to a final decision. Keep an open mind to be able to get the perspective of the other person to put into consideration how to see things and why they do what they do.

Effective Non-verbal Communication in Conflict Resolution

Use gestures when communicating to put more emphasis on your points in a respectable way. Additionally, use the right kind of tone of voice to put your point across. Use the right type of standing posture to show your seriousness in the matter. Stand in a straight posture to show that you are firm with your decisions.

In essence, the conflict resolution process involves bringing conflicting sides together. The root of the problem should be analyzed, and the solution should ensure that both sides get what they deserve. Effective communication should be used to come to a consensus. Both parties should be allowed to state their case before a conclusion is decided.
