Criminal Law

Introduction

Police officers play a crucial role in society. The work with the citizens they serve to maintain law and order in the community. They also protect the members of the nation from any criminal activities. Another role of the police is to prevent crime and ensure that the public lives a good life. However, the police cannot accomplish their goals without support from the citizens. They must be given information that will assist in arresting and prosecuting the criminals. It is the reason why the police must have good relationships with the members of the public. In this essay, I am going to discuss going to discuss what I expect to feel or observe during the police court watch.

Body

I expect to see or sense various things from police officers during the court watch.

  1. First, I anticipate feeling safe in the hands of the police. In this case, they should treat other family members of the inmates and me with the respect they deserve (Fletcher & Sheppard, 26). Therefore, this will assist in creating a better association between the police and the members of the public.
  2. Secondly, I expect the police to question the witnesses, seizure documents and record their testimony. Additionally, the officers should protect the complainant during the court proceedings. The aim is to safeguard the plaintiff from any threats that might emanate from the defendant. Moreover, the police officer has an obligation of filling the charge sheet so that the suspect may know why he or she is being prosecuted. (Fletcher & Sheppard, 26). Also, the police officer must handle the case to the public prosecutor after filling the charge sheet.
  3. Additionally, I expect the police officers to testify in court by giving evidence on various cases. Therefore, they should present evidence that is true and reliable. They should also offer all the evidence gathered (Lee, 44). It comprises of various things such as illegal drugs and weapons such as guns that are usually used to commit a crime. The police should, therefore, avail themselves in court to present these items during the trial. Lastly, this expectation is vital as it will assist in giving evidence in court.
  4. During court watch, I expect to see the police escorting the suspects to custody at the hearing of their case continue. This is a process that usually occurs as long as the case facing the culprit continues. The suspect can only be released from remand after a confirmation has been given that such an individual is innocent. The primary goal is to ensure that the individual does not escape before the conclusion of the case. The procedure is applicable for those individuals that have committed serious crimes such as murder and economic crimes. For this reason, the police must be careful while handling these individuals.

Conclusion

Police have an essential role in maintaining law and order in society. They gather sufficient evidence that might assist in prosecuting the offenders. Police must do several things during court watch. First, they also have an obligation of treating the inmates with respect during this time. Police officers are also expected to give evidence in court that will lead to the prosecution of the culprits. Lastly, I hope to see the officers escorting the suspect to remand as the hearing of their case continues.
