Determining the Design of the Tutorial

Determining the Design of the Tutorial

Discussion 1

The qualities of my target audience played a critical role in determining the design of the tutorial. The topic of my tutorial is “Learning to Use Microsoft Internet Explorer 11”. Since my target audiences are teenagers and adults with low computer skills, my aim was to make the tutorial interesting, stylish and up to date. I used bright colors such as red and blue-green. The slides were colorful thus appealing to the audience. Moreover, I used the built-in slide layout and modified it to meet the needs of my target audience. I ensured they were unique and distinctive by putting a vertical photo on the right and descriptions of graphics on the left. Regarding the font, I used serif typeface (Times New Roman) because it is easier to read. However, the font size varied depending on the content thus making it easy for teenagers and adults to view the content.

When evaluating the graphics included in the tutorial, I considered the relevance of the graphics to the subject of the tutorial. My target audiences are teenagers and adults with low computer skills; therefore, using functional graphics was appropriate. Functional graphics help in explaining the text (Myers, 2009). Also, I considered its appropriateness to the universal audience. I chose graphics that were appealing and interesting. Lastly, the lesson on Usability Testing was significant in helping me create a successful tutorial. I was inspired to create this tutorial because of the need to ensure that the audiences are on a par with the dynamic technology. The piece of advice from my classmates and experts helped me modify the tutorial to meet the needs of the target audience.
