Diversity is the inclusion of people from different races or cultures. Just like in schools and other programs, the American theatre has continued to experience racial, gender and ethnic diversity. For instance, according to the study by the Asian American Performers Action Coalition, diversity continues to increase onstage on Broadway. The study provided that in 2015 and 2016 only, 35% of all roles is given to minority actors.However, this is an increase as compared to the previous season where only 24% was given to this group. The study further reveals that much of the diversity was evident at nonprofit theaters which have and continues to hire a higher percentage of the minority actors significantly. A further look in the US diversity in theater by different studies found that white actors played most roles (70%), black actors represented 17%, Asian-American actors took 9% while Latino actors took 3% of the general roles. Despite the fact that the inclusion of minority groups in theater works may seem right, many people have come to argue that this is an offensive posture. It is an act that passes the underlying message that theater was only created for the “Whites” who are trying to find a place for people of color. In other words,  the lack of adequate cultural diversity on American stages is an act that has led to the actual representational parity through its convolution. In this case, in setting up plays, American theater has to look deeper into the canon of diversity to achieve conscience casting that allows for the inclusion of multicultural and historical accuracy. By so doing, the inherent diversity in the plays will open doors for many actors of color, thus equal representation.
