Duty theories base morality on principles of obligation. These theories are concerned with what people do and not the consequences of their actions.

In this form of ethics, one can justify an action by showing that it produced good consequences. For students, they are much concerned with following the rules and doing the right not because it will bring good consequences but because rules are there to be followed and it is the right thing to do. The student will start by thinking about the action to take and not the consequences.

Duty based ethics emphasize the value of all human beings. It gives respect to all, which is the basis for human rights. It brings out the feeling of duty, which makes people responsible. When the students feel that it is their duty to study and follow all the rules, it makes it easy to control them. However, it can be argued that the sense of duty sets some rules, which are absolute. Duty based ethics emphasize on following the rules and not on the consequences of following the rules. This means that those who follow it will obey even the absolute rules. In addition, the failure to be interested in results can lead to a less happy world.
