Ethics in Sociological Research

Ethics in sociological research is fundamental since they are used by sociologists to distinguish between what is right and wrong to their respondents. Ethical standards prevent sociologists from falsifying data and hence encourage the pursuit of truth and knowledge. Ethics is also essential in a collaborative work where it defines the limits for sharing data, accountability and mutual respect for everyone (The Human Behavior Experiments, 2014). Researchers are expected to respect the ethical standards so that the public where they carry research can believe and support them in their work. The public is always concerned on whether the researchers have followed right guidelines while conducting their research such that they can promote respect for human rights, compliance with the law, avoid conflicts of interest and adhere to safety and health standards.

In addition to selecting a specific research method, sociologists must always observe ethics in research. Research ethics requires honesty openness, honesty, and truth implying that they must always share their scientific research with their community.  Ethics does not allow the falsification of the results. The rules of research also do not encourage plagiarizing someone else work. The research guidelines require that before you commence a study on an individual, they should be informed and the research should not harm them in any way (The Human Behavior Experiments, 2014). Sociologists should protect the anonymity of the people who provide information which is critical in a study. Some other times the people involved in research reveal certain things which are intimate, harmful to others and themselves or embarrassing. Sociologists must always take their ethical standards seriously, and this is evident on the extent that they consider while protecting their respondent in sociological research.

In the life of an individual, observing ethics encourages the development of a positive relationship with members of the society (The Human Behavior Experiments, 2014).  Through the application of ethics, individual behavior is streamlined to promote good social behaviors of respect, honesty, and morality. Ethics in a personal life promotes competence in the assigned duties and responsibilities hence escalating work performance. In individual life ethics also supports the sharing of accurate information to those who are carrying out their research.
