Evaluating and Funding Public Health Programs

The health issue that I have chosen for this discussion is obesity. The appropriate healthcare system level intervention is the technology-supported multicomponent coaching or counseling interventions. In the case of my community, most individuals including men, women, children, and adolescents aged 2-19 years are suffering from obesity and overweight. Due to the high number of obese individuals, there has been an increase in the annual medical cost. The above intervention entails the use of technology to disseminate information on obesity so that clients could maintain weight loss. Coaches or counselors can use technology such as mobile applications, video conferencing, computers or personal digital assistance to communicate with individuals or groups in the community (The Community Guide, n.d.). Moreover, counselors may decide to use the intervention with other strategies that include education, in-person counseling or social interaction.

The program that would be applicable in my community due to the innovative technology is the Active Track program. The program provides individuals or groups with wearable devices to help them achieve wellness (The Community Guide, n.d.). With the device, a person can monitor his/her daily activities. According to, one can use the wearable device to track distance traveled and sleep behavior. The Obesity Society (TOS) and the STOP Obesity Alliance are some of the organizations that might help in the implementation of the Active Track program. Individuals participating in the program will receive free wearable devices to help them increase physical activity. Also, users can use the device to connect with friends and community on Facebook and other discussion programs (The Community Guide, n.d.). CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield could be interested in funding the chosen intervention. The funding will help in the implementation of the program so that individuals or groups could maintain weight loss.
