Evaluation of IEP Form

Evaluation of IEP Form

Differences

The federal and state governments have IEP forms that have some similarities and differences. First, the IEP form developed by the centralized government is applicable within the entire US jurisdiction. However, the ones generated by the states are only used in those regions. It is the reason why IEP forms differ from one state to the other. In the federal form, IDEA obligates the users to include particular information to be included in each child’s IEP. Though, the local school systems and the states include extra information in IEPs as a way of complying with certain aspects of the state or federal laws. The federal IEP form allows learners to apply for admissions in their respective states. The situation is contrary to the state IEP form that permits students to transfer from one school to the other in their countries. However, parents must get complete copies of all the school records before transfering. The federal IEP forms lay the steps and processes that parents and schools go through for evaluation. Some of these issues comprise dispute resolution mechanisms and IEP meetings. However, the states might be able to determine some of their details as long as they follow the general procedures in IDEA. Additionally, IDEA suggests that learners with disabilities must get educational services until they attain 21 years. However, each state might extend or limit eligibility for children who over the age of 18 years.

Similarities

Both the federal and the state IEP forms are designed to assist the children with disabilities to access quality education. Secondly, IDEA requires IEPs to be written according to the demands of each learner who is eligible under the IDEA. Another similarity is that an IEP form must follow the state or federal laws. It is because the state and federal laws are not similar in many aspects. A child must demonstrate some unique factors before qualifying for IEP. Most of the kids that are eligible for these programs have impairment, blindness or communication problems among others. Therefore, a child must indicate his or her disability before being admitted to this program. In both cases, the child must also be evaluated in all areas relating to the kid’s suspected disability. Moreover, the federal and state forms have spaces for the parent, child and other official’s information. It is also evident that both have personal data of the child and that of the parent or guardian. This information includes the child’s age, grade, and language of communication. Finally, the form has the parents address and telephone numbers. The information is vital especially while contacting the parent.

2004 IDEA

The IEP forms meet the requirements of the 2004 IDEA. It is because it offers an appropriate evaluation to the learners. It gathers more information about the learner, for instance, the areas of concern and special services history. Also, it is less restrictive as it allows learners to transfer from one school to the other within their state. As a result, students can transfer to other institutions that their parents have confidence in.

Moreover, the eligibility of learners that have attained maximum age can be extended for the duration of two or three years. It is also in line with the 2004 IDEA since it allows for parent participation. In this case, they are involved in making educational decisions for the learners. These pronouncements assist in addressing matters such as program development, assessment and the eligibility of the student. As a result, the process helps in enhancing a better relationship between the parents, teachers and other stakeholders in the industry.
