Healthcare Emergency Management Discussion Board response

Healthcare Emergency Management Discussion Board response

Response 1

Without any doubts, the HVA has been primarily used by healthcare to detect hazards that impact the demand for services provided by these healthcare facilities. Besides, since they offer a systematic approach, it is right to say that the HVA has been used extensively to recognize risks that might affect the ability of healthcare facilities to provide health care services. By the fact that the HIVs are developed based on the disasters encountered by specific hospitals, it therefore right to say that they are subjective. I agree to it that the reason why healthcare facilities came up with this approach is as a result of increased rates of emergencies and disastrous events. To ensure that hazards are taken good care of and that patient care is provided conveniently and efficiently, healthcare facilities are expected to develop, implement, train and exercise an all-hazard emergency as well as operations plans. I concur with the discussion that the process of coming up with a comprehensive all-hazard emergency program should involve all stakeholders concerned with the delivery of patient care.

Response 2

HVA is essential in the management of healthcare facilities. Without them, the identification and mitigating hazards would not be achieved. An HVA has been used to evaluate all human-made as well as natural disasters which otherwise would put the safety and security of healthcare facilities at jeopardy. I agree with the discussion in the sense that HVA is subjective since the actions taken to measure risks are rated based on the individual’s preferences. Besides, by the fact that they are only developed for a specific hospital or healthcare facilities makes them highly subjective. I also concur with the discussion in that the process of developing HVA should factor all risks ranging from how to identify them to how they are supposed to be mitigated. It is worth noting that healthcare facilities in rural are vulnerable to many disasters. In this sense, the types of hazards that are likely to affect rural healthcare facilities include but not limited to floods, fires, hurricanes, terrorism.
