Globalization

  1. Imperialism to pre-war WW1

Different aspects of globalization were witnessed during this era, but most of the dominant countries in the global front were not as aggressive because there were minimal chances that could have allowed growth to be embraced. The period that preceded World War 1 was characterized by the need to get more power so that the dominating countries such as the United States could have the power to carry out their activities during the First World War. Every major player wanted resources that could aid in spreading their wings in other countries. There was a need for countries to accumulate resources so that they could compete. Additionally, there were no pre-war agreements as was the case during the Second World War. Nonetheless, the quest to expand imperialist control was among the key considerations.

  1. WW1-WW2, Interwar era (1914-1945)

This phase was also crucial in the quest for global control. Development was among the key issues that most countries were considering during this time. Therefore, there were deliberate efforts that were meant to ensure that nations became powerful economically. The modernization theory was among the key concerns that areas in Latin America have. As an economist, Prebisch had his fears. Therefore, he wanted an approach that could provide openings for discourse. For example, he wanted a forum that could allow Latin American countries to have a forum where they could maximize world prices for primary commodities such as petroleum, copper, sugar, and others. Bretton Woods was focused on ensuring that individual countries enjoyed economic sovereignty. He was specifically against the policies that most states were implementing in the run-up to the Second World War. Further, the nationalization of Iran’s oil did not please the USA as a bulk foreign buyer of the product (Prashad, 22).  The period that has been mentioned above also meant that the United States had to rethink about the strategies that would be deployed when addressing Iran. Mohammed Mossadegh was elected the Prime Minister of Iran following the popular nationalization of oil.

Environmentalism

  1. Imperialism to pre WW1

It is exceedingly essential to take care of the environment. Every decision that is made ought to have some element of responsibility on the primary players. This trend is the only mantra that can prepare the planet for any eventuality. The period imperialism to the First World War was relatively silent based on the ongoing developments. For instance, industries had not become heavily mechanized. Additionally, there were no real threats. In comparison to the time that followed the First, World War, the latter stages were characterized by heavy investment in chemical warfare. Additionally, states began investing pesticides, some of which had extremely dangerous effects on the health status of the public.

  1. WW1-WW2, Interwar era (1914-1945)

The period between 1914 and 1945 was significantly busy because countries invested in various plans. Chatterjee et al. (1) talk about the Green Revolution in different parts of the world. The case of India is among the most significant examples that have been provided. This period was followed by new agricultural techniques that ensured that largescale farming could take place. The use of Agent Orange was also an interesting phase because it showcased the effects that most people were not privy to during the time. Later there were protests. Government-approved pollution also became a normal occurrence during the Cold War. This point also shows why most countries do not divulge the details on environmental data. They are always considered to be “top-secret.”
