Industrial and Commercial Energy Efficiency

Tata Steel Limited is an Indian international company that produces power, automobiles, steel-making, and chemicals. TATA operates in 26 countries and has 80,500 employees. The nature of its operations makes it a natural emitter of harmful substances such as greenhouse gasses. However, the company has set out some measures to ensure that they reduce the number of emissions to the environment (Sharma 33). They have created ways of producing their energy without using harmful substances. Therefore, thispaper defines some of the ways the company carries out these its activities using energy efficiency measures. TATA’s sustainability report can be found at https://www.tatamotors.com/press/tata-motors-releases-its-annual-csr-report-fy-2017-18/.

TATA power is one of the largest renewable energy producers and commits to producing 40% of its electricity using the non-fossil source. Additionally, TATA’s manufacturing and mining operations have implemented environmental management systems, and over 90% of their operations are certified to ISO 14001(Hodgson and Brooks, 25). Moreover, 51affiliate companies of TATA have outlayed a carbon footprint and created carbon plans which include steady monitoring and adopting energy-efficient structures such as flexible frequency drives for motors, recovery systems, green data centers, and waste heat. The company has also trained400 climate change champions. Additionally,  TATA has established Capital Cleantech whose primary purpose is to fund green initiatives.Currently,  TATA is using 30% clean energy to produce its power. In addition to this, TATA creates steels with high-performance used to manufacturevehicles that are fuel-efficient as well as energy-efficient buildings. TATA has also set up eco-parks, planted trees and enhanced green cover around TATA factories.

TATA has used its global network to improve its practices such as produce vehicles with Euro-norms. Additionally, it introduced emission-control technology in India by collaborating with Cummins Engine a United States company to produce less emissive engines.TATA is working toimprove India’s energy problem by using local microgrids, renewable power plants, and solar power(Hodgson, and Brooks, 25). TATA leadership came out to ask the government and other business owners in India to pledge towards achieving anet-zero emission of GHG by 2050 during UN climate negotiations in 2015.For future mitigations, the company has directed most of its resources in lowering emissions that inhibit adaptation initiatives. Additionally,  TATA looks to recognize synergies between mitigations as well as adaptations and include them into its policies.

In essence, TATA is working on reducing its overall emissions to ensure they do not harm the environment with the energy they use to produce their power. By attending UN forums on climate discussions, it shows the company is focused on curbing environment population. The fact that TATA has set targets to reduce the number of emissions shows they are committed is ensuring there are fewer emissions.
