Information technology security and technical support

Information technology is a broad subject and specializing in one niche is essential in that it helps one to perfect and polish their skills thereby making them to be more competent and proficient. It took me quite a long time before I could come up with a rigid decision concerning which areas of interest I would like to major in as a way of specializing. Even though the different areas in IT have some common elements and characteristics, they are also characterized by profound differences especially in relation to their fields of application. Specialization would help me to polish my skills and make me a professional and marketable specialist which I have been longing for ever since I was young. When I was in high school I attended a career clinic where experts in different fields communicated and guided us in various topics before later diving us into different categories based on everyone’s interest. It was in the orientation that I learned about information security as a branch of information technology.

My key areas of interests in information technology are information technology security and technical support. Information technology security is an area of IT that deals with planning, organization, implementation and evaluation of different strategies of cybersecurity with the main goal of ensuring that any unauthorized access to the systems and assets of an organization is prevented (Chen, Chong&Zhang, 2014). This, in turn, ensures that the computers, data as well as the networks of such an organization are protected from any intruders who may be having some bad intentions by using the assets of the organization for their benefit. IT security helps to maintain integrity as well as the confidentiality of sensitive data by blocking any access by sophisticated characters and hackers.

Tech support, on the other hand, is the commonly known area of information technology. The specialists in this field are commonly referred to by names such as operations analysts, problem managers, help desk technicians, among others. The main duties of the technicians involve providing professional troubleshooting advice to users (Cragg & Mills, 2011). Such specialists take care of both hardware and software problems at the level of the user, thereby helping the less tech-savvy with any computer issues. Among the solutions provided include communication solutions, thus ensuring that there is convenient and effective communication.

The main reason as to why I think these areas are essential for research is mainly because they are most essential in enhancing convenient, effective communication processes. Every organization that aspires to be productive must first of all invest in ensuring that there are good communication channels and that communication is carried out without any hardships. On the other hand, my interest in IT security has been fuelled by the increased need for maximizing data safety in organizations. The current century has been characterized by increased cases of cybercrime which has cost many companies millions of assets. I want to research more on the various ways in which I could help to enhance safety thereby protecting any sensitive data belonging to organizations from reckless hackers who use such data to drain assets and resources from an organization.
