International Culture Reflection

From the literature provided in the module, there is a question as to whether conducting a reflective while doing the course can be achieved, or it is just a general application. Providing a personal reflection on this course requires me to stand back and ponder on all the experiences and observations made from my group discussions, classroom teachings and my past and present workplaces.

 

Woodcock 2011 identify various premises that discuss this phenomenon.  The first theme looks at the link between the formality and depth of reflection and this I believe is the primary issue that guarantees the manner in which I can conduct my reflective practices now and in the future.  I agree with his second theme which states that late reflection my delay one’s learning. I remember I had a difficult time understanding the provided literature on learning and development theories since I did not have an idea on how to apply them in real life situations.  Other themes from the  CPD reflective practitioner review, identify that practice makes one a better human resource person, CPD is a reality which has been rightly incorporated for this level of study and that people appreciate the role their fellow students, peers or lecturers play in the whole reflective process.

 

In my view, the reflective practice serves various roles for an individual. In my case, the method is a technique that helps me make clear the course and learning objectives. it is a system by which I can assess the value and relevance of the program under study and its application in an organization, in this case, HRD. Additionally, it is an approach meant to encourage the internalization of what I have learned so far. Further, it  a practical method of making sure that the outcomes from the learning and development process are appropriate for QAA purposes. Last but not least, I think it is a clarification for my reasons for joining this human resource development course and what I expected to gain from the outcome, in particular, its significance to my current work environment.

Conducting a personal reflection is nonetheless short of difficulties. First and foremost, the practice is time-consuming and mentally challenging most especially because its role is often not prioritized within the programs of study in a course or at work. Being a student and an employee at the same time somehow make the practice challenging because I had to look for time to relate the course material with real practice.

I must, however, state that I am a pragmatist and the course has made me keen to try out on new ideas, theories, and techniques to confirm if they can work in organizations.  I have developed the art of relating the course content to various scenarios. Furthermore, the module has made me go to work with new ideas which I would like o practice at my workplace and in the future.

Reflection is the thinking about the past or ongoing experiences or events, actions, or situations to gain a deeper understanding of them, potentially with a view of informing or influencing one’s future actions’ choices or decisions. Critical reflections engage individuals in the process of drawing or referring to critical perspectives they have learned or experienced to make connections between their learning and work experiences and to understand and change interpersonal and organizational practices.

From the module, human resource development referred to various activities organized and conducted within a particular timeline and designed to produce a change in one’s behavior. That is, studying a development course makes one have a different and better insight into the specifics related to the area of practice or study. I ventured to this course because I feel that human resource has become an essential aspect of organizations today, not forgetting the fact that the world has ultimately become a global village and that my expertise can be applicable everywhere. Human resource development aims to develop a person’s potential as well as assist an individual or organization to achieve their goals. Training can help me increase my abilities in preparation for doing future jobs such as being head of Human resource in large organizations.
