Private and public health care facilities offer health care services in Kenya, with the majority of Kenyans relying on public hospitals, which are owned and operated by the state. However, health care service delivery has since deteriorated due to the numerous cases of corruption that have enabled the misuse of government funds awarded to the ministry of health. Corruption in the department of health has seen Kenya lose lucrative donations from other foreign countries such as the United States.

High unemployment rates and crime are the other issues that the country encounters. Crime is highly motivated by lack of unemployment since the majority of people engage in such activities for survival. The unemployment rate in Kenya has been on the rise since 2007 at an average rate of 11% (“Kenya: Unemployment rate from 2007 to 2017,” 2019). Majority of youths who are unemployed have resorted to crime to survive, which has contributed to criminal activities in most urban setups. Therefore, to eradicate high rates of crime, the national government in cooperation with the county governments would establish funds to support the youths. These funds will be aimed at boosting education and promoting self-employment among young people.

Finally, poor governance in the national and county governments is another area of concern that I would strive to solve. In the past decade, Kenya has lost billions of shilling to corrupt government officials through illegal tendering processes. For instance, the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal became the biggest corruption crime ever witnessed in Kenya’s history where the country lost 10.5 billion shillings (Obura, 2018). According to Obura (2018), despite the heavy lootings by the 48 individuals incriminated in the saga, the case is yet to be solved. As Kenya’s President, I would make sure that continuous audits are carried out to enable the detection of any discrepancy in ministries expenditures.
