Le Corbusier

Le Corbusier

Le Corbusier is a pioneer of what is presently referred to as modern architecture. While he was working, he did not focus on a single style but preferred working on many different forms which made his work evolve as years passed by. One of his works, Chapel of Notre Dame du Haut, was completed in 1954. The chapel which was built in Ron champ France is one of the finest works of art by Le Corbusier. It is an essential example of the religious architecture present in the 20th century. Though born in Switzerland, most of his structures are concentrated in France here he moved in 1917. His work showcases a masterpiece of a human genius in architecture. His works demonstrated an exceptional architectural language which made a break with the past. That is why most of his work is considered as modern architecture. Le Corbusier works contributed to the rise of current trends such as sculptural architecture, brutalism, and purism. The patterns influenced on four significant continents around the globe.  Le Corbusier worked on the Chapel of Notre Dame du Haut with central sculpture and painted just like many of his other works(Fontana, 2016).

Saint-Pierre is another major work of Le Corbusier which was completed in 2006, that is 40 years after his death. It is not different from the Chapel of Notre Dame du Haut as both have the same style that is modern architecture. While Chapel of Notre Dame du Haut looks more like a chapel, Saint-Pierre looks more like an architectural monument. Le Corbusier did not happen to see his final product after completion as construction started eight years after his death and ended forty years after he died. The church itself is a square base placed on top of a truncated cone. As he aged, however, his works concentrated more on his theories of urbanism(Stott, 2018).
